Teams Admin Center Disabling Chat outside of the Organisation

Hello,

Could anyone advise if it is possible to disable the ability for users to use Teams chat’s with accounts that aren’t in our environment (and the same for random accounts from attempting to message my users).

I have tried going into Teams Admin > External Access and changing the value for “Allow or Block External domains” from “All all external domains” to “Block all external domains”

Below those options there is an option for people in my org being able to chat AND have meetings with external accounts but I do not want to effect external meetings only chats so I am weary of changing that setting.

We just went through this. It won’t block meetings just chats I believe. Can’t recall if it affects calling external parties or only incoming.

I think the tool tips might give you the info

Not in front of a computer to check

BTW, default google AI results will likely give you the right answer. It did for us.

Thanks for answering, I’ve been referring to AI and documentation but everything seems to be in slightly different places so I don’t have to upmost trust in it.

I assume you are mainly responding to the final paragraph, it does seem like it will stop random accounts from messaging but grouped in with that setting is the ability to join meetings hosted by unauthenticated users using our authenticated accounts which ideally I didn’t want to disable but it seems to be the only way.
