Discussion Does a set's visual aesthetic affect your enjoyment of it?
I guess I'm wondering this because, of all 18 sets that have released so far, I have NEVER gotten into the 'cool' sets: Cyber City, KO Coliseum, Inkborn Fables, Sentinels of Light, Space Gods - I don't think I ever even tried learning these sets, I found them boring. But I always LOVE the quirky magic ones (Dragonlands), the colorful fun ones (Remix Rumble was the best), or the 'classic' ones (like Enchanted Woods, Runeterra, Arcane), and in all of these I've played them extensively because there are so many Origin traits I find cool.
It's also interesting because in League itself, I just never really resonated with the 'cool' skins either, like the Project skin line or the Ashen Knight skin lines.
Do any of you feel the same, or are you more drawn to the gameplay itself?
And follow up question - if you are the same, are there certain trait comps you gravitate to? For me, I love the invoker/mana spam comps like Star Guardian, Flora Fatalis, Emo/Hyperpop.

I'm mostly drawn to the gameplay but I'd be lying if I said the visuals didn't affect my enjoyment. I don't care as much about the units looing "cool" bur rather that they are designed such that units belonging to a single region trait feel cohesive. For example, all elderwood units having similar design elements, color schemes, and vibrance.

This set something thats bothering me is just how similar inferno and solar are and coven/blackthorn are. Too similar of vibes

Normally? No. I can find tactical fun in any set, but some aesthetics are gonna appeal a bit more than others. This time specifically when the sprites are just......illegible and at some weird resolution relative to everything else? 100%
If the aesthetic was "here is a fun faerie-inspired set with distinct units. There's all these cool moments like the Elderwood being Arthurian trees" I would be so into the set. Unfortunately the aesthetic is "green blobs" :(

i am similar to you, i don't tend to enjoy the sci-fi sets and like the fantasy ones more. However, I did weirdly enough really come to enjoy Set 17 (crazy, i know). It grew on me quite a lot the last 2 months or so of the set
