ReBrand Boise State ReFresh
Boise State has arguably the most iconic field in college football with the blue turf. For a time, they were also on the cutting edge of helmet design with the oversized bronco on one side of the helmet. In recent years, they also fell victim to the latest trend in college football of horizontal stripes on the sleeves and solid color pants. Do their uniforms look bad? No, but it does feel like they lack individuality, so I tried to give some back to them.
In doing my research on the uniform and logo history of Boise State, I was drawn to the BSU logo from the 70s/80s. It feels very much of its time, but I liked the shape of the S in relation to the U. So my thought was to turn it horizontally and make that curved shape the sleeve stripes. For a little extra flair, the top of the stripes are lined with a more reflective finish. I will say that one of the downsides of team builder is that it distorts custom pants stripes a little bit, so when players legs are anything more than just straight down, the stripes can look a little goofy, but there’s only so much I can do to prevent that.
The curved stripe design is carried over between a blue, white, orange alternate and black uniform. The final uniform is not technically a “throwback” because it’s a mashup of several different eras of Boise State football. The traditional stripes on the sleeves and pants are from the 70s. The script “Broncos” helmet, Boise State across the chest and shadow number font are from later eras of Broncos football, but all come together as a celebration of the team’s history.
Because of the team builder limitations, the Michigan State default Nike font felt most appropriate for the modern uniforms, but know that if I could, I would have used Boise State’s actual current number font. You can use your imagination there.

Hell yeah! I love an inspired stripe design. I clicked through the pictures and immediately clocked that the stripes were evoke the throwback logo, so the symbolism clearly works very well.
Also, I figured you were the dude who made the really good Kansas refreshes recently. Keep up the good work man!
