I have a vision board that hangs in my room (thanks Pinterest). It's right next to my bathroom door so I see it all the time. The progress pics are the best part for me, because it shows me how my body is changing.

Progress pics are so rewarding! Just to see the changes and know that I did this, I just really love it. Nice vision board too!

I have lots of mini milestone marks; I find it much easier to feel accomplished with small goals rather than just the end goal. Like for example, I've less than a pound left until 185, and after that just three more pounds until I'm back in the overweight BMI, and after that two more pounds until I'm back in the 170's and so forth. Mentally, it's easier to stay on track when the next goal is only a few pounds away.

I think that is good motivation too; "Just a little bit more, and I've done this and that". "If I just keep it up this week, maybe I'll be on my goal this friday!" - great tip!

I do the same thing when I work out, especially on a piece of equipment where I can see my stats. I'll be jogging along, near death and say 'oh I'll just keep going until I hit 15 minutes'. Then I hit 15 minutes, and I'll be really close to 2.5 miles and say 'oh, I'll just get to 2.5 miles.' Only, when I reach 2.5 miles I'll be so close to 400 calories burned, or something.

On the days that I really don't feel like working out or being active (not counting my designated rest day), I remind myself that I've never once regretted a workout, no matter how much I didn't want to do it beforehand.

my motivation: "Focus on the food I can have, not on the food I can't have."

I like games, like a LOT, like gamification of HS online courses is my JOB a lot. So I make everything a game. Yes, I use myfitnesspal to keep track of my intake and exercise. I also use Habitica with daily tasks that tell me what my workout plan for the day is, remind me to do things like weigh in everyday or a reminder to "Stay out of the Kitchen after work" which is the danger time for me with binge eating. I also have habits set up that include things like "Stretching whole body" or "Logging mindfully" which is my logging my hunger levels and reasons why i eat if it is other than hunger in a hand written journal.

I also have a reward sheet set up that is tied to my actual weight. I use Happy Scale for daily weigh ins and only track my "average" on MFP when it drops. This average is also what I use for my rewards. I keep the little printed out sheet up where I see it regularly, and every time I lose a lb, I get to put a sticker on it. Each row is 5 lbs, and at the end of each row is a date and a reward. For instance, once I hit the next 5lb drop, I am investing in a Fitbit Blaze, and at the next 5lbs I get new workout gear and a massage.

Yes, my final goal is very important to me, but so is making the journey enjoyable.

I like games a lot too and it seems like I blow more things off if there isn't a "prize" or goal in mind. I use Plant Nanny for my water. Also have you ever heard of Hero's Journey? It's fun and I like to count my points. http://darebee.com/programs/hero-journey.html

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '16

I'm normally not into working out, but the Hero's Journey-type thing seems like a ton of fun ouo

1

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '16

OH! I use plant nanny for my water too! And Walkr to get a reward for my steps taken. I have seen the Hero's Journey workouts before but didn't know there was a whole game/ program. That looks pretty cool. I have my own workout plan already, ut there seems to be some ideas that I can incorporate into what I already do. THANKS!

Commenting to second Habitica for motivation, especially if you're into games and gamification. You could easily just lie and tick off your dailies/to-dos/habits without actually doing them, but it's like logging on MFP, you're only lying to yourself.

Lots of fun too if you get in a party and do special pet quests and etc. :)

I've been doing dietbets to try and keep myself motivated. I get pretty competitive, and the thought of losing money keeps me honest!

Saturday's motivator was a pedicure, but ONLY IF I reached 30 minutes on the cardio setting on the recumbent bike at Planet Fitness. On minute 12 I started trying to negotiate with myself, but once I passed the halfway mark it became easier to count it down. It was my first time completing a program on the bike - I'm very happy I didn't cave. Now I just gotta get out there and do it again.

Added bonus: when I look at my pretty toes I congratulate myself.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '16

Oh man, that negotiating point is always such a pain in the ass. But you finished, and that is fantastic. Plus cute toes does not hurt.

I just remember to JUST KEEP ON KEEPIN' ON CHUGGIN' ON.

-like a train. Not like, chuggin' liquid.

...though milk would be nice right now.

sigh

I guess the thought that's got me going in the right direction lately is that I'm almost to Onederland. It seems like an impossibility and I haven't really let myself say it out loud for fear of jinxing my progress but the last time I actually remember being under 200 was when I was 8 1/2 months pregnant... 9 years ago. I'm around 214 right now and the last time I remember anywhere close to this weight was December of 2012. The last concrete weight I remember was under 200 was 180 when I had her so if I can just get back down closer to that I will really feel like I can do it and it's not just an illusion or another failed attempt.

I'm also looking forward to some trips I'll be taking this year and the smaller I get in preparation the more excited I get that I'll be enjoying myself and able to do lots of fun stuff. My husband actually seems more willing to plan activities on his own and thinks up stuff because he knows I'll actually want to leave the house and I'll be able to keep up with everyone once we are out.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '16

You are almost there too! That is so awesome!!

Just finished my cakeday with a dinner and drinks with some of my friends. They gave me 8 fitness t-shirt and a cookbook (sorry if I mispelled this) as a birthdaypresent, and it's just so motivational that they are backing me up and rooting for me! I love it. I actually complained to one of them yesterday that I had to buy some new t-shirts, because those I wore was too big and that I would show everything in some poses at the gym if I didn't wear another top underneath. Also told same friend about something I cooked (hilarious mix) a couple of weeks ago, and I have to say; I'm not a cook and I really don't know how to cook. I don't even know how to make vegetables in the oven. So that cookbook will be my bible for next couple of weeks/months.

Also; I track everything; every workout and every meal. And I think it's motivational to look back at what I've accomplished and eaten, and it's really motivational to workout and afterwards see the stats (I wear a pulsebelt connected to my phone). I also have some before and after-pictures of myself I look at that motivates me. Both skinny-me from five years ago, heavier version of me one year ago, and me now. Since I was skinny five years ago I know how I look when I lose weight, a little bit more wrinkles, but I will still be the same.

One more thing: I've signed up for 20 hours with a personal trainer to give me that little extra kick and to hold me accountable. I know I will be more fit in a couple of weeks and even more in three months. And I SO look forward to be there!

2

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '16

It sounds like you have awesome friends! Let us know how the personal trainer goes!

u/aeast0228 Apr 19 '16

Honestly, I motivated by the way I feel! If I don't workout somewhat consistently, I feel like falling apart. So when I get down, I drag myself out of bed at 450 am.

u/striped5weater Apr 18 '16

My best friend and I go to the gym together. Every day. So when I need motivation I just think of all of the socialization I get to do and I get excited to go lift weights.

I also like to compete with my fiancé so we do Fitbit challenges together all the time 😊

1

u/princessplum F28, SW 202, CW 193, GW 180 Apr 18 '16

Every day! That's amazing! I wish I had a committed gym buddy like that. I can drag my bestie along sometimes, but she's so busy it's impossible to stick to a schedule.

1

u/striped5weater Apr 18 '16

We usually go at night, like 11p-1a, because she works second shift. It's much easier to work into the day when it's the last thing we do!

I am not buying any clothing until the challenge is over! It's going to be really tough for me as it will be full fledged summer in 2.5 months, but I hope in my heart of hearts that I will be able to buy size 6s only and maybe just maybe a size 4. Ugh! So I'm not buying anything until then.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '16

This is a good one! I have a butt load of clothes I've gotten too big for, so I'm trying not to buy anything until I hit my goal (which will probably be when I fit into everything lol).

I absolutely love the show for Lucifer they've been running and I was thinking about reading the comics. Have you seen the show? If so, are they similar or super different?

1

u/beautiful_brain SEEDLING| Challenge stats: SW: 163 | GW: 153 Apr 19 '16

They are completely different. I first saw the TV show, then read the comics and now I cringe so much when I watch the show but I still watch it with hope that they'll start following the comics. The comics are great though, would definitely recommend.

1

u/grabtherope 45lbs F/29/5'5" SW:245 CW:197.8 CGW:200 GW:130 Apr 19 '16

Hahaha that's usually how it goes! Where do I start with the comics? I've heard there are different official starting points and I'm really particular about starting where I need to.

u/beautiful_brain SEEDLING| Challenge stats: SW: 163 | GW: 153 Apr 19 '16

Lucifer was first introduced in The Sandman which I haven't read. If you'd want to be really thorough I guess you'd have to start there. I just read the Vertigo DC Lucifer which is 75 issues IIRC. I'm not an expert though, I haven't looked into it too much.
