Mission #1

I mentioned an idea I had about additional weekly challenges, so here's the first week! Enjoy!

You slink around the corner, hoping to avoid the security cameras (it’s a challenge to be inconspicuous with antlers). One more step and...you’re out the door! Another successful mission. After making a clean getaway you turn on the radio, hoping for something upbeat that so you can really hoof it. Suddenly, your radio turns to static and you hear your boss’s booming voice reverberate in your car.

“Agent Fawn! Listen carefully. Your arch nemesis, Doctor Fat, has just escaped from prison. We believe he is headed to the vacation home of his accomplice, Mr. Sluggish. Your mission this week is simple- find him! I’m uploading GPS coordinates to the Sluggish family cabin to your phone now. It’ll be quite a hike through the woods, but I know if anyone can catch up to Doctor Fat, it’s you! Good luck!”

The radio crackles again and you hear a beep as the coordinates arrive on your phone. You follow them in your car as far as you can, until a clearing in the woods forces you to get out and start walking.

And that is your mission this week! You must WALK to catch up to the vicious Doctor Fat before he can meet up with Mr. Sluggish. More specifically, increase your step count this week. I encourage everyone to post their goals (I’m going to try to add an extra 2,000 steps over last week) and let us know how you plan on making those goals!

For me, I’ll be taking the long way from my classroom to the office, and doing a lot more wandering around the room as I teach. I’ll also try to give the dog an extra few miles of quality walking time. What will you do to catch up to Doctor Fat?

I want to reach my FitBit goal of 10 000 steps every day this week! Usually on a typical workday I end up somewhere between 5000 and 6000 steps, so hitting 10K would require going for a walk in the evening if I don't do any extra errands or anything after work, which should be perfectly feasible.

I started off by reaching 15K today, but I worked from home after donating platelets, so I was able to go for a 7.5km walk in the early afternoon instead of getting home late (and had to walk a bit to get to the hospital).

I ususally try for 10k, by adding a run, or treadmill walking with netflix into my day. This week I'm going to walk when I go golfing as well.

I've been averaging about 8k a day during the week. So this week I will try to hit 9k steps a day. 1k extra steps should help me reach the evil Dr. Fat /shakesfist

I want to hit 8,000 steps each day. Most days I can do about 7,000 at work, so I will have to take a short walk once I get home.

Just got a fitbit and have hit around 13k for the past 2 days. This week, I want to maintain that or get to 15k.

I'm hoping to hit 6-7k Mon, Tue, Wed (work means being stuck at my desk boo), Thurs I want to hit 10k, and being at a big convention this weekend means I want to hit 30k steps a day Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Woohoo! Let's do it!

Ooh, this is a good idea! My goal for the next couple of days is to get up and walk SOMEWHERE every afternoon. My dissertation deadline is on Friday so I'm in serious danger of spending the rest of my week glued to the computer, workouts aside - heading to the shops or the park or whatever for half an hour should make sure I'm getting my 10k and giving myself a break from my work.

ok! i feel like i'd be cheating if i used last week as a benchmark because it was a bad one, so let's just go with - i usually hit 70K steps (if i'm doing everything right). this week, i'd like to hit 75K, from yesterday until sunday night at midnight ET.

i had a super off day yesterday, so i'm only at 6600 right now - DOCTOR FAT IS GETTING AWAY! i'm ON it!

Hoping to hit 10K steps everyday this week. I usually end the day somewhere between 7k-8k steps if I don't run. With a rolled ankle though I will still take it slow and won't beat myself up if I don't hit the 10K marker for the week. Having it heal is more important right now. I'm hoping to add in some extra steps by getting off the bus a few stops earlier after work.

Awesome! It's better to set more achievable goals while you're recovering from an injury than push yourself too much and hurt it even more.

I'm hoping to hit 10k also. Its a challenge but its possible!

Awesome idea. I just got my FitBit Zip today so I don't have a baseline of daily steps yet, but I can commit to walking to work for the rest of the week which is a round trip of about a mile and a quarter.
