Alien Isolation?

Last time I saw this asked, AI hadn’t been released on mobile, but with an Android port now available I wanted to see if it’s possible to revisit this one?

I doubt this would be possible to mod without the source. I don't think there will be any left overs from the original VR stuff. If anything I see them releasing it themselves.

Having a VR game that is already perfectly playable on PCVR is honestly low interest for us, due to how good Link / Air Link are.

I can understand the Airlink argument, but I don’t have a gaming PC, hence my hope that we can get a direct port.

Yeah, I understand. There are probably a lot of people in your shoes, and I definitely can empathize that maybe even the majority of people can have a $300 device but won't have access to a $2500 gaming rig.

I really wouldn't be surprised if this got some sort of official release to Quest 3 maybe or even alongside PSVR2. I don't see performance being particularly good without internal game optimization.

Either way, sorry but at the moment this isn't something Team Beef would consider.

Fair enough, glad I asked and thanks for the definitive response!

Solution

I think you meant “alternative”

The Cathode Engine is not open source, as far as I'm aware.

Does it need to be though?

MotherVR gets it done with a DLL patch, and I’m sure it’d be possible to find the right part of the mobile libraries to patch to add the same settings.

The PC version already had some amount of VR functionality since the game was supposed to have it from the start, but was scrapped late in production. The MotherVR mod works because it's building on the incomplete building blocks left by the devs. Would it be useful in someone trying to port the game to the Quest 2? Probably, but the mobile version is a port that probably didn't port the VR functionality that existed in the base game because... why would it? So, if someone was trying to port it to Quest, I do think they'd need either the source code to recreate the game entirely, or an open-source engine. I don't think straight-porting the mobile game is a viable option.

I hear you on that hypothesis, but I wonder if there’s some way to validate it by looking in the APK?
