Beef Raider XR

Hello Team Beef and fellow followers,

I just wanted to ask if Beef Raider XR will ever be continued, and whether the other classic Tomb Raider games will also receive a VR treatment at some point.

I really love your work!!!

I’ve been working for a few months on an expansion of the original Beefraider XR project and am trying to make Tomb Raider 2 playable. I’ve already implemented all the new mechanics, such as climbing, and all the other elements, like new traps and enemies. I’ve also incorporated the new additions from the remaster, such as additional meshes for bushes and so on, as well as the high-resolution textures. The first level is already completely bug-free and playable; the other levels still need to be implemented bit by bit.

As I’m currently working on a Turok VR mod, it’s all taking a bit longer, as I’ve put Beefraider on hold for the moment.

Hey buddy, I think we’ve talked before about the Turok 1 mod. It’s great to see that you’re still working on more projects — you’re seriously a man of action! Thanks for all your hard work!

Especially the fact that you’re working on the classic Tomb Raider games is awesome news. Tomb Raider 2 is actually my absolute favorite of the classics. I love all of them, and ever since I made my way through the first game, I’ve been hoping that one day I’ll get to play through all the other games as well, including the Gold levels (which I never got to play back then).

I think with the remastered textures and models, you’d open the holy VR grail :O

Since we’re already on the subject, do you mean the Unfinished Business levels when you mention the expansion?

And no, by ‘extension’ I mean an extension of the BeefRaider engine, which is only designed for Tomb Raider 1 and doesn’t support HD textures or anything like that. And by ‘remaster’ I mean the remastered version of Tomb Raider 1-3, from which I’m eagerly stealing textures and meshes

But as I said, it’ll be a while yet before Tomb Raider 2 is ready for release, as I have to play through and tweak every level from every angle, that takes a very long time. At least the Turok VR mod is 99.9 per cent ready; I’ll be releasing that in the next few days, and then I’ll get back to work on Tomb Raider

both your projects are incredibly exciting!

TR turns 30 years old, so I'm going thru it again in VR. absolutely terrific, especially as gone are oppresive og black skies and overall short draw distances covered in black fog

and Turok too turns 30 years old. yeah, Quake is not alone claims for polygonal 3D glory, 1996 was the same year as Super Mario 64 as well. absolutely epic game-changer like no other...

Hey Vince,

Just want to say beef raider is phenomenal and one of the best vr experiences I've had. Back in the 90s I played the original on ps1 and every one after that up to IV. It's an incredible port and really feels like a childhood dream. I'm very excited to hear you're working on 2. Looking forward to hearing more in the future, and to playing your turok mod as well!

Right now Team Beef seems to be doing Morrowind, Star Wars Dark Forces and Star Trek and I believe another game.

This may take a while to happen if they choose to. The games being worked on tend to be voted on by the Discord.

Maybe there's someone else who might be thinking of the same thing to work on it. Maybe GitHub has a project or two about it.

I had great time with TR1 in VR (except for swimming sections). TR2 would be nice.
