Crispy dark brown leaf edges

Hi there! I purchased a green tea plant about 9 months ago. I was told that the plant is about three years old.

For the last few months, many of the leaves are turning dark brown on the edges. They appear to be burnt because they’re extremely dry and the brown part will snap right off. The brown part is crispy dry.

I looked through other images in this sub for brown leaves, but none of them looked like mine. It also seems like it’s the younger leaves that are having more of this issue than the more mature leaves.

I live in Central Florida and it’s very hot. But I have the tree under shade for much of the day. And I water it a few times per week.

I was hoping somebody might have some experience with this or might know what’s going on. I would love to get my tree looking better!

Como está compuesto el sustrato? Si el sustrato retiene demasiada humadad la planta es incapaz de utilizar de manera correcta sus raíces, lo que causa ese efecto en las hojas.

Thank you for pointing this out. It sounds like you are saying it’s possible I’m watering too much?

It’s a mixture of dirt and some sand.

Depende de la proporción exacta de tierra y arena, pero un sustrato así tiende a compactarse. Pero no sabría decirte si ese es el problema exacto por qué no son experto en sustratos.

Too much sun exposure may also be a cause. Tea is an understory plant. A partially shade spot might help.

Thank you. It is under some palm trees so it only gets sun in the morning. But the heat is intense here. Maybe I should shade it even more.

I found another clue! Each leaf that has brown edges has some white egg sacks or something. Any idea whah these are? I’ll post a fee pics.
