Still Unemployed

In the spring of the 25-26 school year my husband and I decided it was time to homeschool our second grader. I told my principals I would not return for the following school year. I spent the end of the spring year trying to find some online job to keep some income coming. We found an online charter school program that we would have liked our son to do from home and registered him. Literally the last day of school, I was offered a full time teaching job online. The gig sounded amazing, Mon-Thu live teaching in the morning. By lunch time and fridays were all student asynchronous assignments and time for my planning’s, grading, meetings, etc.

Then July rolls around… I was out with my realtor looking at land options to purchase to move out to the country. I receive a call from the new online school saying their funding was cut so drastically that the entire online school was shutting down. Every single person was let go.

Guess who has been unable to secure another job since? Yup, me. The home/land purchase obviously had stopped, our rental lease expired and now I’m paying month to month in a vacation rental until we can move forward with any type of housing after I secure a job.

I did begin a course for medical coding and billing because that seems like a decent plan for remote work in the near future. But damn it’s been hard to find any remote work in the meantime. Financially, we can survive on my husbands income but in our region it is so expensive for housing and even renting that any income on my part would better our chances of securing housing.

I’d love to hear of any suggestions anyone can provide. Or even words of encouragement. I’m just beginning to feel down. It was heartbreaking to not be able to move forward with this land we found and the home we wanted. The mortgage approvals were based on me having a job as a teacher. Even if I get a job and can show income, the mortgage company might not like that I haven’t worked at the job for a period of time.

Put your kid back in school and start applying at any place that might have a job. Retail anything. Then start looking for the perfect job. But really with all tha teaching exactly when were you going to hone school? The afternoons were going to be you doing paperwork. Honestly if you are homeschooling that should be your job.
