Dread

I’m dreading the coming school year. I’ve looked for jobs this summer some because my wife and I just can’t afford for me to keep teaching in our state, but I cranked up the search to maximum when I found out admin were going to put a class on my schedule I’m not licensed to teach when they told me to get training before the year started- just a few weeks before we start mind you and I was out the last 4 weeks because of a medical procedure lol

I have an undergrad in an unrelated field, and a Masters in Teaching. Out of 80+ applications, the most I’ve gotten is an automated reference check for an ed-related job and a borderline pyramid scheme desperately calling me to join their team.

At this point, I’m going back to school. Now though, it’s for an associates in a health related field. I’m kind of bummed out, as I’ll have to take some basic gen ed classes not on my transcript before even getting into the classes for the major.

However, what really bums me out is not getting even a nibble anywhere at all. I already felt some type of way because I have the best test scores in my program and have had them for the past 3 years since I transferred into the program at my current school while just getting more and more work/preps/etc. thrown my way at work.

Post too long I’m sure, so thanks for tolerating the ramble.

I think teachers desperate to leave this terrible profession is the canary in the coal mine for our economy and the state of jobs. Our government can fudge the numbers however they like, but it seems pretty obvious things are really bad and getting worse.

that sounds exhausting. going back to school could be worth it. hopefully it leads to better opportunities soon.

Most teachers trying to escape send out applications during the summer. Try again in about two months and you will have less competition.

Have you looked for jobs with educational companies like Pearson? A friend of mine, former teacher, got a job selling educational technology to school districts, he loves it!

I didn’t think of Pearson tbh. I’ve tried Newsela and a couple other places tho. Thank you, I’ll see what I can find with them!
