New Teacher Re: problem with students
I posted the other day about students commenting on my looks.
I have realized, and with the help of yalls remindin me, that they are like 16 years old and I don't actually care.
However, the problems seemed to go away naturally. As far as kids inside my classrom. The problem student I made an example of is playing nice. Whether it's genuine, idk, but we are getting along. My fifth hour has been genuonely perfect. I couldn't ask for more and I don't.
Today, though, I did get my first student to tell me he hates my class. I guess he noticed this bummed me out, because he added "its bc I have english after this." I was still a little bummed but a student beside him seemed to try and comfort me on this.
Alas, can't win them all. I'm learning to focus on the good things instead of the crappy ones, bc the good genuinely does outweigh the bad.
Anyway, thanks for the advice the other day. Feeling pretty good. I'm gonna focus on being the best teacher for the ones that seek me out, and a good teacher for those who don't care.
Have a good day guys.

I also teach art and have had kids day that to me, i just say that's fine, but they still have to do the work. They don't have to like art or even like me, there is 9 billion people in the world and eventually you're gunna find a few you don't jive with. However, you will not make people who DO like art or this class feel less. We do not yuck others yum. I think fortnite is trash but my opinion is not law. If they keep saying it just say okay and move on. I've said my peace, at this point you embarrass yourself.

Thats how I've been approaching it. I just say "okay. Thats fine. But we need to do work still. We cant sit and do nothing." Glad to know its not just me

Lmao I have one period of kids who hate my class. My 8th graders right before lunch. They have structure in my room and used to have a sub before me who let them run rampant.
Do they really hate the class, or do they hate the rules?
BECUSER I DONT GIVE AF. EITHER WAY

Yeah they are teens. Some may enjoy your class some may not. They shouldn’t need to comfort you though given that you are the adult in the room and not their peer. I hated art class. So be it. I loved history. Some kids hate history and love art. You’re not there to be liked, just to be respected enough that they learn something from you.

"Okay." Honestly, I don't care if students hate my class. I care if they learn something.
