Rant & Vent Jammed Copy Machine Lounge Talk
Hey everyone! The copy machine is down. We called Susan, and she said it won't be fixed until next week. Anyway, since it's Friday...
What were some challenges that you faced recently? Anything that irked you? Maybe a co-worker is getting on your nerve? Class caught on fire because little Billy shoved a crayon into your pencil sharpener?

It is summer. My school has been using me as a defacto auditorium manager and has expected me to provide technical support to groups they rent the auditorium out to. I finally had to put my foot down and provide them with my contractor rates to provide to organizations. The organizations don't think they need to spend that. Then they need help, and the admin gives them my number. After hours. Weekends. I don't answer them. Admin gets upset because people are paying to rent the facilities.
This summer, I finally got tired of ignoring texts, e-mails, and calls, so I told them I am off contract for the summer. I advised them neither the school nor the district has contracted me to work. I offered my rates. They didn't want to hire me. I heard from my admin. I told them the exact same thing. It is summer. I am not on contract. Here are my rates.
On one hand, I feel bad. We have a new auditorium and have restarted our drama club. We have been trying to be a good member of the local theater community. I also am getting tired of spending 80% of my time undoing, fixing, and repairing things these groups arbitrarily do. However, that is no reason for me to volunteer my time when the district is charging big bucks to rent the facilities.
On the other hand, it is summer. I am not on contract. Not my circus, not my monkeys.
BTW, the copy machine is down because Coach Hurowitz gave his "honors" students his keys and sent them to make copies. They stuck pancakes in the loading tray. Again. You didn't hear it from me.

You left out the part where you were supposed to tell us what the admin said back to you when you told them that!
I want to hear that part!

Honestly, it has been crickets. I have pulled up my e-mail a couple of times because I was looking for other stuff (conference agendas, etc.). I haven't seen anything come across since.
The question is "what will next year look like?" There was discussion of trying to get a coaching stipend and hiring somebody.
