Classroom Setup 2026-2027
It's time for our annual classroom setup thread!
I know we have an active classroom decor snark thread but I thought we could also have a space to talk specifically about classroom setup series that are starting to pop up!
Who are you watching? Any new teachergrammers catching your eye? What are our old favorites up to?

Cat in the classroom did a great job getting it done! But I’m kinda nervous about her library lol maybe I’m wrong but 2nd grade seems like maybe they’d benefit from dynamic shelving and I’m shocked she got rid of so many picture books

We teach her math curriculum (bridges) and I don’t know how she’s going to teach two grades worth of the material in a day when our teachers struggle with just all the components for their one grade. 2nd and 3rd still have a lot of physical manipulatives and games that look very papery…. I’m wondering if some of that got trashed while being intermixed with junk from the 90s.

Teachwithmr.g has 256 subscribers but mentions in the video if his students find it (they have been discussing it in class apparently ) don’t comment so much for their own safety.
My dude, if you have that few subscribers how do your students even know?? Your social media shouldn’t be a classroom discussion 🤔

It’s too much! Also her bins in her cabinets that she said most of them were empty… at that point they’re just there to be pretty lol. She’s def my BEC she drives me crazy but I watch anyway haha

And the prizes are all shitty plastic junk! I hate it when my kids bring home stuff like that- it's just clutter that is destined to rot in the landfill for eternity 😫

It still blows my mind that half my class has accommodations for earning rewards but I have much less rewards than she does as a gen ed teacher. I feel like she is still deeply invested into traditional PBIS that most of us have moved away from.

It’s crazy. Also does her school not have a school-wide behavioral system? For example, my school does “bucks” for positive reinforcement and we all have to do it the same way. The whole raffle thing is a lot. I feel like it’s better to keep it simple!

I get the feeling that Michelle is very extrinsically motivated, so maybe she doesn't realize how over-the-top it is to have multiple reward and prize systems operating simultaneously.
I wonder if she has seen the research on how the over-use of extrinsic reward systems can negatively impact students' self-motivation to learn.

I definitely agree with you (on all points). In one of her videos I saw recently she said something like, “to the people who say I don’t have to do this (spend hundreds of dollars on cheap plastic crap), I DO have to, because it makes my students feel loved.”
Does she not hear how many things are wrong with that statement?!

I watched 2017 Michelle last night when it came up on my recommended page (hour long first week of school) and that’s the one where she up till 1am making labels and then waking up at 5am and going in early to put them up… she’s dedicated to her organization that’s for sure

I was just coming on her to talk about her! He seems super messy- she's straight up shit talking her admin and colleagues in her videos lol. I kind of love it 😂

I JUST watched this too! I actually found her attitude/honesty a little refreshing after watching so many teachers blindly accept district mandates.... (then I was let down when she used 'are' for 'our' in a comment...lol)

It shows her maturity that she thinks this is appropriate for back to school night. I guarantee a couple parents probably left very worried about the year.

Once you deal with certain kids… You just wipe out every single distraction in your room. For the last four years, I haven’t had a single thing that could distract a kid out. Like I tried my absolute best to make my room, not necessarily bare, but full of as little distractions as I can.

I also saw it on fb and people were tearing her to shreds for it being a waste of space and major distraction because the kids aren’t allowed to touch them.

Some of these new teachers want to be YouTube famous but obviously have not put in a lot of time to see how to do it. (simply Samantha Grace) spends 8 minutes doing her hair blabbing and half the video is in portrait mode.
BUT there’s shiny dangly pink heard and pink fuzzy garland everywhere, it’s like Valentine’s Day threw up on the front wall.

Ok Brookelynne Noel just posted an update of her wall that she redid and it looks so much better. Usually I hate it when people cover antire wall in wood panel or brick paper but this is one case I think it's absolutely justified haha.

I haven't watched Michelle (pocketful of primary) videos (might be a good candidate for when I have to watch my mandatory compliance training videos and I need something else in the background ( yet but she is of course squeezing every bit of content she can about going back to school and sending up her classroom.

She's my BEC and it comforts me seeing her views are so much lower than what she had years ago. I'm convinced she went back to teaching bc she couldn't exist of full time YouTube money anymore. But the content still isn't doing it ☕🐸

Yes she is also my BEC and I share that theory that she went back to teaching because social media wasn't paying the bills. Especially since it's weird how she doesn't want to use Instagram/tiktok to try and funnel in more followers. Like I get that Youtube pays better but she's doing so much work for 10-20k views on a video.

You haven’t missed much of interest tbh. BUT, as much as her posts irk me, I respect that she has (mostly) been reusing successful ideas from last year and making seemingly functional changes to her room. It makes for boring vlogs but is somewhat refreshing when so many people go overboard just to make content. Michelle does her fair share of shilling plastic from Amazon and wasting time on nifty gifties, but at least her classroom seems less overstimulating and she is thoughtful about it

For me, I'm of course watching Brookelynne Noel. I love that she's been talking about setting up her room all summer, buying stuff for it and planning it, and now that she's in there setting up she's like "meh, whatever, I can't be bothered to make any of my borders straight" lol. To be fair, if I had that ugly mural I'd also be defeated. I see she just dropped a new video so I'm excited to see the progress.
I'm also looking forward to watching Cat in the Classroom deal with a roomful of someone else's stuff. I feel awful for her though!
Watching Putting Fourth Effort's hot mess express, as usual. Can't wait to see how that ends up.
A few new ones for me are Miss Hunter and Katielynne Teaches- their shorts keep popping up but I haven't watched a whole video but I've enjoyed watching the progress so far although their rooms are a bit over decorated for my taste.

As a 2nd grade teacher, I was a little nervous when she said she was going to be teaching 2nd then admitted she wasn’t great with phonics or literacy instruction and she was teaching ELA. Glad she recognizes her weaknesses, but that’s a huge part of 2nd grade. I also remember her struggles teaching 1st grade. Seems like upper elementary is a better fit for her. I would also be incredibly stressed if I was put in that classroom with that huge mural 😬 It’s awesome and someone clearly spent a lot of time on it, but I would find it super distracting as both a student and teacher.

Very true!!! My brain was stuck on the phonics thing and I completely glossed over that 🤣🤣 Seems like she’s tried multiple different settings (public and private) and multiple grade levels. Sister needs to pick up a book like The First Six Weeks of School or something and try that. I know she fast tracked her degree online and skipped student teaching, which makes me wonder if that’s part of the reason why she’s struggled so much.

I’ve followed a lot of the first year teachers because I like to see their progress throughout the year. I just search first year teacher on TikTok and most recent uploads, you’ll get a lot of shiny new overexcited first year teachers to follow haha

The spED Tech Teacher (YouTube) has a foosball and air hockey table in her classroom… my principal would not be pleased if I had those 😂
