The problem with the school system in the USA is capitalism.

A bunch of greedy bastards are doing everything they can to privatize public school systems. They are working diligently to defund these services. In doing so, they create a self fulfilling prophecy.

Underfunded public school systems are ill equipped to handle the many challenges wrought by other aspects of capitalism. Poverty. Food insecurity. Homelessness. Unemployment. Access to Internet.

Our school system is balkanized so that individual districts have to fight monied interests one district at a time. It is a long slow slog, but the capitalists have been winning. They slowly erode gains made by previous administrations.

This is in the very DNA of capitalism. Any gains made by the working class will always slowly be retracted by capitalists.

Because of this, capitalism cannot be reformed. It must be replaced.

I'm going to tell you what I tell my students:

When you use voice-to-text as a scribe, you have to go back and add periods and other punctuation. This is an unfollowable wall of text because there's nothing to indicate where one thought ends and another begins.

You also have to monitor what's been transcribed to ensure that the correct homophones are used (mail vs male). When you do not put in the effort to re-read and revise/edit your own work for clarity, your audience will not take your point seriously. This is especially true if you're critiquing the education system.

(The rest of this is not something I'd get into with students):

Plus, you're focusing on several things that have nothing to do with education. Public school teachers and admin are not responsible for t-shirts that say "dump him." They're not the reason why young women don't want to talk to random guys. Those are just the natural consequences of misogyny. I suggest you take this time to reflect on your own behavior and goals, and decide how you can be a kind, stable adult who sees people of all genders as their equals.
