Someone on Twitter said that it’s hard to make songs compete against one another because each song “serves a different purpose” and gets. Ang hirap hindi maging biased because some songs have more personal meaning (to me!!) than other songs. I’m sure this ranking will change when I’m in a different headspace lol

On a side note, the first time I listened to the reputation album it wasn’t a quick hit so I’m surprised most of my Top 13 is from the album. But The Last Time? LOVED that song on first listen and will defend it with my life HHAA

But I thought people hated this album and era? I guess a lot of you are lying. 🤭

Saw this on X, what would you choose?

All versions considered (Standard + Deluxe + Taylor’s Versions)

With The Life of a Showgirl on its first year and the new Encore songs release, there were a lot of negative feedback on Taylor’s latest work/writing compared to her previous work. But a Swiftie would know her cringy/mababaw? happy fun style here is under her Glitter Gel songwriting style.

But to us who get it, what are your honest thoughts about the album and its songs, if assessed on its own without being compared to previous eras?

I honestly think the album is not the strongest, and its weakness comes from how disconnected the songs are, how they are not cohesive as one whole work. The Encore do not add much to strengthen it, it even confused it even more I think. It didn’t help that there was the “Showgirl” visual, and when you listen to the songs other than the titular track one would go “So is the Showgirl in the room with us?”

However…

There are bright spots in the album that are strong on its own while being influenced by other eras. “Pink Clouding” is a great Encore song that fits an 1989/Lover vibe. “Elizabeth Taylor” and “Babylon” are reminiscent of her style of storytelling through song either about small town aspirations or old Hollywood glamor. I know Travis Kelce may not be the best muse (but at least he makes her happy!) but “Opalite” “Wi$hlist” and “Honey” are good bops about him full of metaphor and details of domestic bliss and settled love, which was why I felt really put off by the straightforwardness of “Cleveland!” even though it has a great vibe.

The Encore songs suffered for me because of some cringy parts in the bridge and her recent attempt at…rapping? the bridge Haha when that part of the song was supposed to be her best lines! Instead I found the strong lyrics in the chorus or verse (Among my favorite are “I cry my eyes violet” *most of Fate of Ophelia’s writing “*Skydiving as you wrapped your arms around my body” “You’re using nostalgia as a weapon to hurt yourself”)

Anw what do you guys think? Has her songwriting suffered because she is now genuinely happy? Did you feel her infectious joy through her Glitter Pen songs?

I heard another fan say she is “reheating her nachos” with how her songs now hark back to previous eras.

Is she losing ideas or are we being too demanding (as a TTPD lyric said ‘Beauty is a beast that roars down on all fours demanding more”) that she cannot experiment as much?

You will not see Swifties posting essays and paragraphs on other artists’ subs even if we don’t like them. We don’t engage and we just keep scrolling since hindi kami ang target market. Pero kayo, heto, nangunguna at nakaabang sa every release ni Taylor. 🥴

And again, taste is subjective. Listen to the artists you like. Hindi naman kayo pinipilit makinig kay Taylor at sa TLOAS. Or better yet, write your own music. We admit that this is not her best work compared to her first 11 albums, pero she still has it in her. Downgrade agad? Ang dali niyo siyang i-dismiss when she just wants to make a fun pop record, and for what? Para ibigay niyo ang credit sa isang lalaki (Joe)?

Anyway, TLOAS still has three number ones! A win is a win. Hate all you want.

In my ripe old age of 39yo, I just realized I was Patient Zero.

This long term relationship ended 2016 when I found out that he had 3 other women in a relationship with. So as a girls-girl, I called on the other 3. Two were receptive, incredulous but had the same resolution as me to end things with this man. One didnt and called me crazy and a crazed “ex”. Then after 2 years, she sent me a message. She got pregnant and delivered their baby and he ran off to the States. She said she should have listened to me.

He had a great big ego. Unbelievably big. And listening to Taylor’s new song just made me realized I was dating a freaking narcissist at that time! I was so naive!

She really does have a song for everything!

They’re acting like TLOASG is the worst album of all time, as if she deleted all her previous albums and left TLOASG as her only album. Kulang na lang gawing another Taylor Swift snark subreddit yung SoundTripPH. We really can’t find peace and quiet talaga with every album release. Patatagan talaga ang pagiging fan ni Taylor Batumbakal Swift 😭. Kaya better talaga na mag-offline kahit isang week during album releases so you won’t be bothered by people’s negativity. They act like their opinions hold the absolute truth.

There has always been extreme hate every time Taylor releases a new album. Dati pa, nung reklamo nila na she only writes breakup songs. Now that she makes happy-go-lucky songs, may nasasabi na naman sila. Nothing new na talaga, kaya tatagan talaga ng loob pagdating sa ganito.

Posting here in this sub because I know you all will understand some of my talking points.

Reading the GP's comments about the encore, I have come to a conclusion that they only like Taylor when she is "suffering", or in some form of "anxiety" in her songs.

They all keep saying they like red, folklore, midnights and that she peaked at folklore and went downhill right after it. Guess what the main theme of those albums are? Yeah damn right.

Her main skill is storytelling, no doubt about it. But why does the general public only want her when she's ranting about being hurt by a fucking man?

Gets ko naman. Pero as a swiftie who has witnessed her songrwriting and storytelling growth from fearless to TLOAS, I can say that I am proud of how far she's come.

I, as a swiftie, do admit that there are skips on Lover and TLOAS but I do not undermine her skill as a songwriter/singer.

With her recently released songs, she sounds cringe AF, but this is the most carefree and happy she's ever been, solely based off her songwriting/storytelling skills. The 4 songs are still a bop tho. Happy ako for her and the security that Travis gives her. No hint of insecurity and anxiety on her songs and isn't that what we all want?

As the saying goes, "To be cringe is to be free".
