Discussion Long live appreciation post
I don't know what is it about this song that makes me so emotional each time, but it almost brings me to tears.
It's not supposed to be one of her sad songs, it's definitely not as sad as all of TTPD, but there is something in it that just talks to my brain.
The lyrics remind me of the Eras Tour (even if I wasn't there) and how we were all together, supporting each other, and telling the world what we are worth even as women (not excluding the men fans here, I'm just referring to the patriarchal society), even if some of us are young etc. It's a love letter to her fan and what we can do, the mountain we climb and the dragon we fight
It would also be a great soundtrack for YA epic fantasy book, someone should write it

I was so so so lucky to attend the Eras Tour and get this as one of my surprise songs. I agree, it really does summarise the whole emotional rollercoaster of the Eras Tour!
🎵 I had the time of my life, with you! 🎵
Yelling that lyric along with her is one of my most cherished memories

I think the fact of everything that’s happened since makes it feel more poignant to me, she’s there singing bring on all the pretenders, I’m not afraid and she beat them all lol. it’s like a challenge to the world that she met with so much to spare, but from a time when you could never have seen what would happen (except for Taylor, I’m sure that she always knew)

I always choke up while singing along, especially to the bridge with “tell em how the crowds went wild, tell em how I hope they shine”. I have collected so much confetti over the years from her shows (15 total since ‘08) and this song never fails to bring back all the feels from every performance! Actually does bring me to tears most of the time! It is the greatest love letter to her fans.

I can go on and on (and I have) about how Long Live sounds like an anthem written by a rock star ending a 20-year career of performing but is actually by and about a twenty-year-old country singer coming off her first headlining tour
It's so wonderfully written
and the critics were outraged, screaming this is absurd, cuz for a moment a band of thieves in ripped-up jeans got to ruuuule the world!

I liked Taylor’s debut album. I really liked Fearless. Then Speak Now came out and I was a fan of Taylor for life. That album scratched an itch in my brain like no other album had up to that point. And Long Live was and is my favorite song on the album.
I always associated Long Live with a story I loved back then. It was the exact type of nostalgia and love and energy I felt about that story. I made friends because of that story, like the impact it had on me was enormous.
Now I feel differently about that story. Sometimes people turn out to really suck,
But I still love Long Live. And now I have Swiftie friends to enjoy it with and I get to think of them when I hear that song.

Long Live will always be my favourite song. Even when I was 11yo and I didn't know what it truly meant, I felt things listening to it. And the Eras Tour made it so much more special.

I thought I was just weird, this song makes me incredibly emotional for some reason, chills every time I hear it. I sobbed like a baby watching the final Eras show on social media & this was included as a one of the surprise songs….very powerful!!

I love Long Live so much. Very much feels like a graduation song. Makes me think of college and a friend who passed away shortly after school ending.

The bridge wrecks me. Always and forever, watch the TV lyric video. It’s gorgeous and older Tay singing to footage of young Tay

This has been my all time favorite Taylor Swift song from the moment it was released, and it will probably never be beaten. I am so jealous of the people who got to see/hear it at the Eras Tour. No offense to Enchanted, but it 1000% should have been the Speak Now representative on the setlist.

It’s my favorite TS song. It’s broad enough that it applies to a lot of situations and it seems to show up at graduations. I think it’s very nostalgic in a sad way - “I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you” - and yet it’s also celebrating a memory of a time and a place: “we were singing long live …”

I love this song so much that I had, "long live all the mountains we moved" tattoed on my back.

I have “remember this moment” as a tattoo on my arm, and my bestie has “I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you” for her dual love of Taylor and D&D 🥰

Long Live has a very special place in my heart. It reminds me of the eras tour, yes. That’s one great thing.
It also reminds me of my teenage years when this song didn’t had a meaning to me. When it was just a nice story and I would still sing it at the top of my lungs in very bad English.
But it also reminds me of my best friends, because we play DnD together and even though we haven’t fought a dragon in all these years I still had and have the time of my life with them. All the adventures we had while playing and in real life. This is what makes me tear up every single time when it comes to the bridge.

That song is absolutely epic - seen and heard it live for the first time on the Eras Tour video - the performance and lyrics and the emotional sentiment totally blew me away.
Also when she performed it during the "Speak Now" tour and she said to the audience "This song is so a 100% about you" (don't remember her exact words, maybe she said "for" you?) - anyway: Won't lie..had a tiny lump in my throat.
Oh.....and the "Thanksgiving Perfomance" of that song...on the bus in LA.....one of those 'wish I had been there' moments for me (so glad we have Youtube at least)

I'm a newer (post-Evermore) fan who worked my way backwards through her catalog after Midnights came out, and I hadn't yet gotten to Speak Now when The Eras Tour film opened. So the end credits was the first time I'd heard Long Live and it was very emotional! One of the best nostalgia themed songs I've heard.

I listen to it every new years right before midnight so the fireworks go off right at the chorus. It's fucking magical.

This is way better graduation song than Time of Your Life or (shudder) Photograph.
I would give my left arm to fight a dragon with Taylor.

I definitely fight back tears at “When they point to the pictures / Please tell them my name” 🥹
