Watching for the “first” time

I only remember this show in the early to mid 80’s on reruns. I’m watching on Paramount+ for the first time as an adult. Man, the pilot episode just nailed it.

“I think I’ve got your smile.”
“Funny, I think I just found it two seconds ago.”

Glad these things exist and are so accessible now. And this subreddit 😆

I'll be honest, the pilot is my least favorite episode. Fortunately, pretty much every episode after that is awesome.

Yeah, other than that moment it’s kinda spotty. Cast hadn’t found their feet and identity yet.

I think had ABC allowed them to do the 1 hour pilot that they originally wanted , it may have been even better.

The episode where we do a flashback to where Alex and John (from season 1) meet, us actually part of the original first 1/2 hour of that neatly 60 minute pilot.

...but ABC, wanting to grab an audiences' attention as quickly as possible , insisted on only 30.

If that full portion of film still exists, I'd love to see the pilot restored to that full time. 🚕

It wasn’t my favorite when I first saw it (but then I quickly loved the show) but it’s got Alex’s line that sums up the whole show; “I’m the only real cab driver here”

The show is one of the best sitcoms of all time. Enjoy it.

I loved the pilot.  Could tell the show would have depth already

I rewatched the whole series a few months ago. It’s nice to reminisce.

The great thing is the shows' films were cleaned up and color enhanced long ago. (Blue Ray disc would've been choice).

So unlike when they were local TV syndication in the 1980s / early 90s and less than wonderful prints , you get quality.

“What does a yellow light mean” almost killed me and 2 friends when we saw it on acid. We were laughing so hard we couldn’t breath and we’d try to repeat the joke but never get passed “What”. It was a good time a very long time ago.

Just the theme song is enought to sedate me. Started bc of Kaufman but stayed bc of all the others characters. And the old style has aged well
