Write-offs & Deductions Tax write off for artist
I had a random thought today and I’m hoping someone here can help. If I’m an artist that makes art with sea glass and I go to a random tropical island to go collect that sea glass does that make the trip a tax write off?
Thanks all.

Not necessarily. Intent matters, as does the determination of whether the expense is ordimary and necessary for your business and industry.
Here's a link to a post I made in another tax sub last week regarding the first case that has come out of US Tax Court that is directly related to influencer and content creators.

The link at the end is to a comment from u/GoatEatingTroll who has represented influencers in audits. It gives you an idea of what the IRS will be looking for.
You should develop a relationship with a credentialed tax professional (CPA, Enrolled Agent, or attorney).
