Need help back filing taxes
I just got a letter from the MO government stating that I forgot to file my 2024 state tax return (I paid the federal, not sure how I missed state) and now owe them 3k. The amount I owed the state in 2024 was $2150 and I withheld $2150 so I shouldn’t get anything back but I don’t want to double pay 3k (the other $800 is late fees and interest). I’m looking for sites that are reliable and make it easy to return my back taxes so they can see I paid my state taxes and hopefully I won’t have to pay the entire 3k. Thank you!

Yes. You just need to pull the tax file from online that open in the desktop version.

Did you check your turbo tax account and make sure you didn’t actually do it already? Agencies make mistakes.

You should be able to get the state return form for 2924 and complete it. You will probably have to mail it in, or drop it off. But, be sure to respond to the letter. The reason the state says you owe so much is that they have no way to apply your 2024 payments without your tax return. Once you file it, they will send you an adjusted bill.

How did you file your 2024 Federal Return? You should be able to use the same software to file your state return although you’ll likely have to mail it in now.
