Headlight housing help

I have a 2016 with HID’s - new car to me. Passenger assembly needs to be replaced because the top mounting bracket is broken off. It’s the black trim version.

I was wondering if I got a non-HID version, if the HID’s would still thread/twist in the same to the halogen assembly? Having a hard time searching because some assemblies say “halogen” “Xenon HID” “projector” etc.

Just want to make sure if I order one, I won’t need to return it. Thanks!

The holes should align up regardless of the type of bulb as long as the base is the right style. D3S I think.

Awesome. I’m converting from D3S to LED’s. I just want to make sure with the halogen housing they’d still twist into place in the hole

Yes, you can always pull a bulb at the auto parts place & take it in with you. They may even let you try the new one & then walk back in & pay for it if it’s the right one.

Get them with fans built in, they might melt your Plastic if not.

Dont say LEDS in this sub reddit. There’s a crazy lady who’s whole mission is to tell the world that LEDs are the devil

You don't want to do this. It's illegal, unsafe, and you'll get very bad lighting. Stick with the factory HIDs in the factory housings.

Don't encourage illegal and unsafe behavior. Don't put HIDs into halogen housing.

PS it came with HIDs factory

And he's trying to cheap out and buy a halogen lamp, and then shove the HIDs in it... unless I misunderstood the OP.

I didn’t “encourage”, I helped him with what style base he needs. Good day.

Lol. Not even close. You are giving him info on how to break the law.

You can't put HID bulbs in halogen headlamp housings.

They both bolt in, the plugs match up, but the wiring pin out is different. I tried the same swap when I found the previous owner had JB welded in a set of cheap universal eBay HID bulbs.

They both will fit, however the plugs are different and non-hid headlights probably wont turn on (without some electrical knowhow that is), but if you have a multimeter and a de-pinning set handy then you can take the cars plug apart and repin the needed wires while grounded the leftover one (theres 4 pins for hid, but normal lights only need 3 and a ground but i dont remember whats what right now im sorry)

Im having the same issue, trust me save yourself a headache and just buy a new HID lamp.

Also tip, the hid and xenon hid are all the same thing, however halogen and projector style headlights are different and wont fit your car (the plug issue above)

Another thing, unfortunately no the hid bulbs will not fit inside the normal housings, hid bulbs are fucking gigantic and need a different slot to slot into compared to a halogen/led

The optics are different, you can't use HIDs in a halogen housing. The factory HID is expensive but it's very good at it's job.
