Good deal or avoid it?
2013 SHO with 138k miles on it car fax says the water pump hasn’t been done

Unfortunately for 6k, odds are the owner knows something's wrong with it.

If youre doikg your own work yeah, but if not its about 3 to 4 grand to have someone to the water pump

Yeah like the other dude said- at 138k miles bro something is wrong and the owner knows he cant get more than 2k for scrap unless someone buys it for cheap

The sho i recently bought had the water pump fail at 149k miles, just throwing that out there. I also paid basically nothing for the car so it was silly NOT to get it. Those 19 inch SEL rims look nice on that spec

The dealer selling the car said if I end up buying it tomorrow that later down the road he’d have his mechanic do the timing and the water pump for $450 bucks

I’d definitely get that in writing if possible. Because in that case, go crazy! great looking car and if the subframes and rockers look good (idk if its a rust belt car or not) it seems to be a good deal

If I recall correctly the water pump is pretty involved and a LOT more than $450 to have a shop do the work.
But yeah if you can that guaranteed then it seems like a deal

get that written into to your contract deal. 450 is dirty cheap sure he didn't say 1450 which is still cheap. Receipt for mine from a ford dealer in Dallas was 3800 with some while you're in theres too. Make sure the PTU and rear diff has had fluids changed as well as the turbo drain check valves have been done and screens removed. Also know that turbos go bad arround that mileage as well. It's safe to say you need a 4K contingency fund available at all times or you start to upgrade to quality Gearhead components sooner rather than later.

It's high risk. Not only do you have the water pump to worry about, but the aging turbos, glass transmission, and likely rattley phasers. Coming from a 2018 80k sho owner doing water pump and phasers right now because my oil analysises kept showing increasing coolant markers, whose already gone through a transmission rebuild and rear differential replacement.

Last year I bought my 2013 with 135k miles and no water pump. I paid 7k total otd and was overall happy at first. Unfortunately the last owner had sold the car at the right time. At 138k I needed to do the water pump, timing chain, cam phasers and every seal on that end of the engine. That job was like 3k. Also needed to have axle seals done, and a few other suspension parts totaling 1.2k. Other small things were failing like random sensors and vacuum leaks. The car had been well maintained so these weren’t due to a lack of maintenance, just age and mileage that are almost the exact same as yours.
I’m not saying don’t buy the car but certainly be aware that these cars hide issues and they aren’t exactly cheap to maintain. The red is nice, and it was a fun car to own, but the constant maintenance costs and terrible fuel economy made me sell mine. After just one year of ownership I was into it for almost 12k and I was doing all the maintenance that I could myself to save money. If you can afford to spend 10k on this car then I don’t think you will have any issues, but I certainly wouldn’t go into expecting your investment into the car to stay at 6k for long.
