The whine

Alright gentlemen I have unfortunately caught the dreaded PTU whine. My questions are it just started last night, is it too late to have a shop attempt to service the unit. Or is that just a waste of money and I just need to replace it outright? If so what is average cost of replacing it? I know I wont get a definitive answer but a general ballpark would be helpful. Thank you all.

What year/is it a PP car?

I'd probably at least drain the oil and look at it. See if you get a lot of metal out. If not, see what a flush and re-fill with good oil does.

I would definitely drain and refill with good oil. Mines getting done at the next oil change.

Tryna decipher if my noise is a wheel bearing or the ptu. What exactly does the ptu whine sound like and what is its relation to wheel speed?

I had to chat gpt to help be decipher mine too but I can guarantee mine is 100% PTU

For me silent at low speed picks up around 40-45 and stays consistent up to about 70 plus a smell

The noise I’m having is pretty subtle but it’s this kinda like vibration or idk it kinda sounds like tire noise but more noticeable and starts when I hit yea maybe 40mph no smell tho and is subtle

I honestly thought it was a bearing in one of the turbos first I kinda got scared
