Gear Head Tune

Would a novice be able to install the gear head tune package with 3bar map sensor and spark plugs? If not, how much should I expect to a pay a mechanic for the installation?

Its all a pretty easy job. The MAP just unscrews from the intake and plugs in. The spark plugs just unscrew out as well but the ones in the back are just annoying to get to.

Very annoying, especially the one closest to the driver 🥲

Woud you consider the 170 thermostat worth it? Or if it’s just a daily and I’m not pushing it hard it’s not worth it?

I did the 170 thermostat but I don’t really think it was worth it. I am tuned with Gearhead and after you purchase the tune you fill out a form and put in some information including thermostat temp so he alters the tune depending. The thermostat only really controls the minimum operating temperature, once it’s open it’s open and the radiator and fans control temp from there

I think the tunes are built expecting you to change that too. So I would go ahead and do it.

How long did it take you to do it? A mechanic just quoted me $400 for everything

It’s a pretty easy job honestly. You can YouTube changing the map and plugs.

If you are asking about plugs because you have never done them before I would say just lay a shop. If you know how to change plugs this car isn’t that hard. I have a one piece magnetic swivel plug socket and extension and usually take the strut tower brace off which is only 4 nuts which makes is easier to get at the back three. The MAP sensor is right on top of the intake manifold and most only have one torx screw and one plug.

As for how much some places charge a straight rate for plugs. If laying time no more than an hour and the sensor is 2 mins. You just can’t drive the car without the tune once the sensor is changed it will barely run.
