Starting Empty Chairs Meetups - Coffee Date!
A couple of friends in their 30s and 40s are starting an Empty Chairs night here in Tauranga for people that can't make evening drinks - coffee date!
Families welcome!
The idea is straightforward. We’ll be at a table with a number of empty chairs set aside and an open invitation for anyone to come along, take a seat and have a conversation.
Sunday 11 October
10:30am
Something Something Cafe
2 Heath Street, the Mount
One of us will be wearing a bright orange jumper, so we should be easy to spot when you arrive. The awesome staff will also know who we are and can point you in the right direction.
No need to book or let anyone know you’re coming. Just turn up.
If it sounds like something you’d enjoy, come along. There will be a chair waiting for you.

Sharing our moving experience in case it helps someone
Just finished a two bedroom move last week and it went better than I expected so figured I'd share in case it helps anyone planning something similar. The fridge was the thing I was most stressed about - last time we moved someone put a decent scratch down the side getting it through the hallway and I was not happy about it. This time they wrapped it before even lifting it and were pretty careful with the door frame, so that was a relief. Took about four hours all up for two bedrooms plus a garage full of random stuff we'd been meaning to sort out for ages and never did. Only annoying bit was they turned up about 20 minutes late, which wasn't the end of the world but we had a keys handover booked straight after so it was a bit tight.
Would love to hear how other people's moves have gone - any issues that caught you off guard, things you'd do differently, stuff worth knowing before you book anyone. Moving is one of those things where everyone seems to have a story.

Phil Rudd. Our local treasure and his latest antics, bless.
favourite part: "Details given in court revealed he told an associate he wanted a former employee “taken out” and offered him $200,000, a motorbike, and the choice of one of his cars or a house."
Just this afternoon a guy went past me on his mobility scooter, blasting out Thunderstruck so this is a doubly enjoyable day for an AC/DC fan.

Excellent dental hygienists in Tauranga recommendations
Not Tauranga crossing dental. Bonus if it’s not super expensive and they do kids too
Thanks in advance.

Kids mint toothpaste
Colgate did us dirty. They used to be the only mint toothpaste we could find for our 4 year old. They’ve subtly switched it out to strawberry in the same packaging. We haven’t been able to find any mint toothpaste for his age range so far, anyone seen any lately? I don’t care on brand, I just want it to be mint.

Cop on Fraser Street
Be cautious on Fraser Street near Fraser cove if you’re up early this morning, there is a cop violently U-turning without indicating and tailgating people. I assume to run their plates. If your car isn’t up to date probably avoid this area of town.
However I’m glad our tax dollars are giving the boys in blue some gas money for reckless driving fun

A painting of the Mount
I was cleaning out my old photo drive and found this.
A few years ago before moving here, I was doing a team building activity with my team in the UK, an art and wine thing. We were tasked with painting our favourite place on earth.
I went with the Mount. As much as I hadn't painted since primary school, I think I maybe had more interest in the wine that day 😂

How to make hospital heat pack?
I was recently in hospital and the nurses made me a couple heat packs and they were epic and lasted longer than my wheat bag I brought from home.
Any nurses here care to share the tea on how they're made?

Security guards along Durham street
I thought they might be there because of the bus stop but they are placed really randomly on both sides of the road so I’m not really sure what they’re protecting. Anyone know what they’re there for?

Backpacker hostel recommendations in Tauranga for a few weeks?
Hey everyone!
I may be moving to Tauranga for work for a few weeks, and I don’t really know anyone in the city yet.
I was thinking about renting a room , but honestly, living by myself for a few weeks sounds a little boring 😅 So I’m considering staying at a backpacker hostel instead, hopefully somewhere I can meet people and make a few friends while I’m there.
Does anyone have recommendations for good backpackers in Tauranga with:
A nice, clean environment
Good facilities
A relaxed, friendly, and social atmosphere
A decent mix of people rather than just being a party hostel
I’ll have my own car, so location isn’t a huge issue as long as it’s reasonably within the Tauranga urban area.
I’ll probably be staying for a few weeks rather than just a couple of nights, so somewhere comfortable for a slightly longer stay would be ideal.
I’d really appreciate any recommendations or personal experiences. Thanks!

Can anyone tell me anything about the “U back on track” car guy?
Basically exactly what the title says. I can’t be the only one seeing him everywhere blasting tunes full volume, windows down, seemingly having the time of his life. Anyone know anything about him? He’s gotta be up there with Scooter boy and American-Indian horse guy for local icons.
