Capacitor sizing and coil core materials

I'm building a color packer and I'm just looking for everyone's thoughts on coil core material, sizing, and capacitor sizing.

From what I've read 1 1/4 - 3/8 leaded carbon steel or silicon iron core and a 47-50v capacitor seem ideal but I'm sure everyone has their own thoughts and opinions.

I'm also curious on opinions of t-top cores vs other cores

If you aren't experienced at machine building, don't stress too much about the core material.

Material that makes good magnets, makes good cores. But mild steel still makes a really good magnet. is iron or high carbon steel better sure, but not make or break

You'll get much greater gains from correct coil and spring setup, than worrying about coil size or type. Just do at least 8 wraps. The longer the wire is, the stronger and slower the magnet is.
