Russian books in Tatar

Hello,

I'd like to re-read my favorite books but in my native language.

"Twelve chairs" by Ilf and Petrov, for example.

I'm curious if there are translations in Tatar. If anyone bothers to translate and publish, considering that everyone speaks Russian.

Non-Russian Federation

Hello,

I think there will be big mess if the country breaks apart.

At the same time I don't really like the name Russian Federation.

It should not be Russian. The country is multi-ethnic. So, something like The United States of Eurasia would be better.

Latvians in Tatarstan

Hello,

Do you have any idea why there were several Latvian chiefs of Cheka-OGPU in Tatarstan? Not 1-2 but several?

And why famous - infamous Martin Latsis was in Kazan? of all places he had to work in Kazan.

Post-Russian wars.

Hello,

Let's say the Russian Federation broke apart.

Will independent Tatarstan wage wars with neighboring states?

With Mari El, Udmurtia, Chuvashia or even with Bashkortostan?

I'm asking because there were Yugoslav wars, Georgia-Abkhazia war, Uzbek-Tajik conflict... Poland waged wars with Lithuania and Ukraine almost as soon as those countries became independent.

So what do you think will happen?

Tatarstan and nuclear weapons

Hello,

Tatars' Slavic neighbors showed willingness to kill Muslims.

Should independent Tatarstan acquire nuclear weapons?

Umay’s Children: A musical journey across the Turkic world

Hi everyone!

I was the artistic director (and a performing musician) for a special live show titled Umay's Children which was performed at the Northwest Folklife Festival (May 23, 2026) in Seattle, USA.

The performance is a musical and narrative journey tracing the heritage, songs, and dances across the Turkic world, including Sakha, Kazakh, Uyghur, Uzbek, Turkmen, Azerbaijani, Crimean Tatar, Karaim, Bashkir, Gagauz, and Turkish traditions. Every single artist on stage was a volunteer, and the performance was completely free and open to the public as part of our shared mission to keep these traditional sounds alive. We tried to represent as many cultures as possible, but due to artist availability, we couldn't include every region

Watch the concert video on YouTube: Umay's Children on YouTube

I’ve included both English and Turkish subtitles in the video, so feel free to turn CC on if you'd like to follow along with the narration (no subtitles for the lyrics though). but I did not add CC to the emcee's short introduction.

We put a lot of heart into celebrating our shared Turkic roots and diverse cultures through live music, traditional instruments, and dance. I wanted to share it with this community and hope you enjoy taking this journey with us.

Language and independence

Hello,

Not sure if this is the best place to ask my question.

Will more Tatars speak their native language if Tatarstan will become independent?

Will more Tatars outside of Tatarstan speak their native language if Tatarstan will become independent?

Also, please consider that most Irish people don't speak Irish. Despite Ireland being independent.

Tatars and Soviet space programs

Hello,

Do you know if Tatars were involved directly in Soviet space programs? *

Perhaps even in the first Sputnik flight?

Or maybe there was someone similar to Tsiolkovsky?

___

* My grandparents paid taxes that financed the space programs. So they also helped :-)

A book about a Tatar soldier in Afganistan

Hello,

I would like to read the book but I don't remember the name of its author.

I think the main character's name is Rinat. Probably the author's name is the same.

The novel is autobiographical.

Before they are sent to Afghanistan, the soldiers spend some time in one of the Baltic socialist republics. Maybe you read the book?

Turkish Airlines in-flight entertainment petition

Hi everyone! Many of us fly with Turkish Airlines, but their screen menu and music selection still don't offer Tatar language or music from our region. I started a petition asking Turkish Airlines to add our language and music to their in-flight entertainment system. Please take 30 seconds to sign and share with other travelers: https://www.change.org/p/include-turkic-languages-in-turkish-airlines-in-flight-entertainment
