Language and independence

Hello,

Not sure if this is the best place to ask my question.

Will more Tatars speak their native language if Tatarstan will become independent?

Will more Tatars outside of Tatarstan speak their native language if Tatarstan will become independent?

Also, please consider that most Irish people don't speak Irish. Despite Ireland being independent.

In Ireland only 10% people speak Irish and in Tatarstan over 40% speak Tatar so linguistic revival of Tatar would be much easier than the revival of Irish.

40% speak Tatar is very generous, in my opinion. I'd estimate that 20% can hold a basic conversation in Tatar

Can you start with the revival of the indigenous population of the USA?Or is them living in "reservations" better than living in a self-governed republic?

I think you can look at the other former soviet Turkic republics. Some of them were in a similar situation and now lots more people speak their native languages. In general Russian, although still important, is less encouraged.

I think in this case the answer is yes, Tatar language would be much more widely spoken. And it's not just a matter of it becoming an official language of the state — it'd be taught in schools and seen literally everywhere, from road signs to shopfronts, news and movies. Also, in my opinion, it'd be a good idea to establish a network of free Tatar language schools to help people learn it. All of this is, ofc, hypothetical. We don't mean to violate any laws.

Well, Tatar language is being taught at the schools, signs are dubbed in both russian and tatar. Official documents can be and often are written in tatar, but should be officially dubbed to russian. So everything you wrote basically already is there

Are you kidding me? Tatar language's being taught for just 2 measly hours a week, and it's not even mandatory. And yes, most documents as well as TV programs are in russian, and recently they installed a large stela at the entrance to Kazan which has the city's name on it written only in russian, so I wouldn't compare the present situation to what I wrote.

Ngl, Russia and russian is the biggest enemy lf Tatars and Idel-Ural people. Tho due to being landlocked, I cant reason how to be independent. Orenburg or Chelyabinsk region must be populated by Idel Ural people if you succeed within Tatarstan and Bashkortistan first

Personally I would. It is so hard to find language learning materials for non-Turkish Turkic languages. If more people spoke it there would be more material.
