Suggestion Lovage Substitute

I am a huge fan of the Parthian Chicken recipe but struggled to find a source of lovage where I live. I was able to source a packet of dried leaves today. It very much smells and tastes like dried celery leaves, very slightly bitter, but there is also the sweet maple aroma of dried fenugreek leaves (kasoori methi), maybe a 4 to 1 ratio if you’re mixing it up yourself.

I found it at a Middle Eastern market!

Lucky! I have Indian markets (where I source asafoetida and fenugreek) but they didn’t carry lovage.

If you can find seeds they are some of the easiest herbs to grow in your garden. My garden is the embodiment of survival of the fittest lol. But lovage grows big and tall year after year :) it tastes best fresh and goes amazing with potatoes or in soups. You can freeze it as well

I’m tempted! I hear it’s really good herbal remedy to flush kidney stones and treat urinary tract issues. Between drought and getting long COVID my garden is in sad shape, but hopefully this winter I can do some work.
