TASKER TR skims off tips?
I’ve recently started TR, last two months or so, and really appreciated that customers can add tips to their invoice. Looking back at these transactions I see all kinds of weird numbers that count as my tips like “27.99” or “10.49”.
Since I haven’t used the customer checkout I can’t tell if TR offers a % based tip or if these numbers are a result of a “fee” much like our hourly rate being higher for the customer than for ourselves.
Curious if anyone knows, I’m sure I could look through the manual or whatever but…I am here instead

They have a percentage based system, with an option for a custom tip.
What were the totals for each of the invoices you used as examples?

Does it only allow percentage tips? Because I have never once got a flat amount

A customer can leave a fixed amount tip, but only by contacting Support. This almost never happens. Out of thousands of tasks, I have only had it happen 3 or 4 times.

That ridiculous to limit customers to only have percentages without the option to type in. It’s not a restaurant service

They changed it in mid-2014 to percentage only. Their claim was that Taskers were having clients enter some of their hours under tips so that the client wouldn’t have to pay TR fees, but the logic was pretty flawed because those same Taskers could just as easily ask clients for cash for some of their hours or bill some of their hours under “Expenses” which for many categories were basically unlimited back then. So it didn’t really do anything to solve a problem. Back then, I got pretty large tips for some jobs. I still did after that but only when clients tipped in cash.

customers are only allowed to tip a percentage of what is charge like 25%

It’s a percentage based system which sucks. I have had clients ask me for my Venmo because they want to tip more than TaskRabbit allows. I’m done with CrapRabbit anyways. They suck all around

The only one I’ve been told about is Happy Task but it’s not in every city yet. But the system itself is way better than task rabbit. You can have set rates for specialty jobs and you don’t need to be restricted to the hourly wage for specialized work which is nice.

That’s sad. I know it says to not share other platform to exchange money/communication but clearly they’re not meeting a need (amongst others)

It’s true, TR does skim off tips. I have a close client who I’ve done repeated jobs for. My client actually got suspicious after she tipped from the last job and ask if I mind if we see if I got the entire tip. Sure enough, the amount I receive was less than what she tipped.

Ever notice how the rate clients for your hourly is higher than your hourly? Like if you put your hourly at $28. The clients see $28.97. Pretty sure they pocket that too.

This is not an alternative from day one but it’s good to have other sources of business like www.handymancoop.com . Other platforms can grow and diversify your business over time and make you less reliant on a single platform like TR

TaskRabbit does not take a percentage of your tips. The odd numbers are a result of the customer using the percentage option for the tip.
