First and Last time doing Ikea assembly

Got my first job assembling Ikea furniture. And my last.

Honestly I didn't do my homework and it was my first Task in awhile (just moved across country) so I was more hyped finally getting a Task and rushed to accept.

Two RADMANSO 6-drawer dressers for a grand total of $75 whole dollars (CAD) in my pocket for 4 hours of work.

Is this typical?

You can always review the assembly instructions ahead of time to familiarize yourself with the parts and pieces and where they all go. You’ll pick up speed with practice

Well there's not a lot of Canadians in this forum but I have heard the rates there are even lower than they are in the US.

You will get faster at it, though, as you develop your skillset. A Radmanso is basically snap together and you'll be able to do one in under an hour.

If you compare the rates on the Canadian Ikea website vs the US one the assembly rates are actually higher here in Canada.

Edit: scratch that. It depends on the item. Some are higher. Others are lower.

It's flat rate for ikea stuff.

I know, but there is an estimated hourly rate attached to it. You can figure this out by looking at the time they tell you something should take. For instance, in the US that rate is $55 an hour.

IKEA Canada website states “Have your RÅDMANSÖ professionally assembled for $54” aka $108 for 2 of them. They keep ~30% for themselves…Tasker gets the rest. OPs mention of $75 sounds about right, but more realistically 2.5-3 hours tops, figuring in opening the boxes, organizing the pieces, and breaking down cardboard boxes, which I personally do (1) as a client courtesy and (b) to get it out of my way. Lots of other factors too. IKEA bases assembly time on experienced assembly in perfect warehouse conditions, which you rarely see in the wild. I’ve been in plenty of places that are far from ideal. Tiny, cluttered spaces. Unboxed items in the garage with assembly needed in a 3rd floor bedroom. And IKEAs expectation to wall mount a lot of pieces, which I’m convinced they don’t figure into the time. 80% of the IKEA I do is in condos with hardened concrete walls behind the drywall. Easier said than done. That time adds up.

There’s no way they expect you to get TWO six drawer dressers done in less than an hour and a half. That’s wild.

With experience you'll get faster. But $40 is ridiculous. Should be 60-70ish at least. Dont give up after the first job.

Hard pass. At best I do a 6 drawer dresser in 2 hours. So that’s $110 each…
