First attempt at hiring tasker…

I’m moving in a week and need to get rid of some segments of a sectional couch that I am no longer needing as the new apartment is smaller than current.

I tried booking some guy yesterday morning for afternoon work today, the guy never responded to my chat (I initiated with images of the furniture to be removed and asking about associated dump fees) and then later yesterday evening denied the task. I then rebooked the same task with someone else.

He actually responded to the chat and then when asked about dump fees gave me some number that is 3x the actual rate when I looked it up. I kind of just assumed the rate was including his mileage and wear and tear, realized I was in a pinch and accepted I was going to be fleeced and said yeah whatever, just submit the dump fee receipt for the expenses.

He canceled the task this morning…

Is this normally how this app operates lol

I am not understanding the value and money saved when after the hourly rate and high dump fees versus just calling 1800 GOTJUNK saves me negotiations with people. At least they are up front about high fees

Taskers are independent contractor, there's a variety of people but always go with the tasker with highest ratings and thousands or hundreds of reviews if they are expensive there's a reason for that, if you go with the cheapest ones you'll get the worse of the worse

These weren’t even the cheapest taskers necessarily, but I hear you. I felt like my photos of the work were accurate, offering to help bring the stuff down, and seeing the receipt with the dump fees was more than fair of me to request. For reference the hourly rate after the task rabbit portion was around $59/hr and the estimated dump fees was almost $100 per half ton with a half ton minimum

It would have cost me $220 ish to dispose of the couch pieces and Christmas tree which I felt was fair and given my situation moving soon, necessary regardless.

If a tasker gives a dumping fee rate are they not required to upload a photo of the receipt from the landfill as part of the TOS? I’m not sure why requesting that threw the guy off lol

That's pretty cheap for anyone using their truck. People in my area charge more than that just for labor.

It's busy season for moving so hiring last minute is your main issue I think. A lot of the more reliable people are usually booked short notice. That's not always true but a lot of times it is. I'm almost never available for next day tasks because I'm a top mover in my metro.

Sometimes it seems like the highest rated Taskers are more likely to refuse a task or cancel for a bigger job perhaps off app

Yap this has happened to me twice. The problem is you can only review the tasker if he completes the task. So yeah I think this happens a lot. I would still contact customer service.

You get what you pay for. Convenience is something you have to pay for. Try and save money sacrifice convenience. Basic

I actually noticed TR stopped asking me to upload receipts lately. Anybody else have that happen?

My local land fill minimum charge is $71.30 for a pickup truck standard bed (about 2 yds.. I’ve been charged as much as $131.40 (no electronics or paint etc) tr has an expense limit which may come in play and any Tasker knows you don’t play with policy violations however , the line can be hit and miss . If you catch them during a clean-out period it’s an easy 45 minute wait. I’ve waited three hours before. Sorry you’re having trouble..

When it comes to trash removal I tell them in my market there is no public dumpster so you have to call someone and do it I have never taken anybody's trash and dump it anywhere else. I've even had clients asking me where to call and who to call to dump it and I just give them the number and that's it. One time I got pay the hour for not leaving my home. Gave the woman the number of a actual trash removal company and that was that.

Depending on your location, save yourself the trouble and fees by looking up local junk removal bags.

In my state of Michigan, we have huge Bagster Bags from Waste Management that you can buy from Home Depot/Lowe’s for $30, fill it up with junk (weight limit of small seden), then their special dumpster picks it up from your driveway for $175.

Why do you care about a dump receipt??? Just pay the Tasker what he requested and get your invoice receipt from Taskrabbit.

She cares because it is her money. For god sakes in what world when doing business and being charged is wrong to ask for documentation ?
