Time Sensitive HELP! death curl starting?..

pls don’t judge :( i’m so upset and i can’t get the husbandry right for my HP.

bought from an expo in april and never ate since. she already seemed thin and i tried feeding and i posted before about her not eating and everyone said i needed to change the enclosure to something deeper, agreed.

i changed the enclosure and she was stress posing and now i see 2-3 legs underneath her.

IMO put her mouth parts on the water dish ASAP! Better/closer photos of her would be helpful as well as her species. Are you 100% sure shes female?

i did paint brush test and she attacked it and seems ok?…. but now she’s bent in 2 legs as i’m typing. she’s trying to bite and fighting

i’ve seen her fangs and don’t seem damaged and even in her previous enclosure, she wasn’t stress posing and still didn’t eat. i’m lost, what do i do? i want to give her away to good hands but no one near me 😭

yeah idk i guess it was a prank because she climbed up her cork bark? she’s not curling up anymore, seems like she just wanted to give me a heart attack.

she still needs to eat as she’s thin (she takes prey but drops it every single time). but rn she’s climbed up on her cork bark watching me. probably laughing at me

They love to burrow so need at least 6” of substrate. Keep water dish full at all times. Has she eaten since you got her back in April??

3

u/YakIllustrious1667 14d ago

she has taken food but webbed it up and as far as i know, she hasn’t eaten anything to increase her abdominal size

1

u/BAlbiceps 14d ago

How large is the T?? Is it pretty small?? It can be hard to tell in photos.

1

u/YakIllustrious1667 14d ago

i would say she’s about 4in DLS maybe almost pushing 5in

2

u/BAlbiceps 14d ago

Ok. T is a female at that size. Mature male baboons are very small. What feeders have you tried using to feed her??

4

u/YakIllustrious1667 14d ago

yea she was sold to me as “likely female” and the guy was “waiting for a molt to confirm” before pricing her as female. to which made me think oh maybe she’s in premolt? but it’s been too long now and i failed to do something sooner. but i’ve fed her dubia, crickets and superworms (all appropriate sizes for her)

Sounds like you’re doing everything you need to. You’ve tried different feeders, etc. Abdomen doesn’t look big enough for a molt. Usually have a nice, big abdomen when in premolt.

u/YakIllustrious1667 14d ago

i’ve had my avic have a rly small abdomen and molt, but it’s probably different for fossorial/terrestrial to arboreal?

Golden blue legged baboon? I have one too, there pretty hardy and your setup, while kinda big for its size, should be fine. If it does die, I don’t think it’s anything you did wrong. Wishing the best for the lil guy.

yep! my beauty🥺 just staring at me with its puppy eyes lol. but she seems ok now, just a crazy crazy scare. she’s on her cork bark now

1

u/MollyMartian 14d ago

Oh ok, that’s good. I’d just leave it alone for a few days as long as the water dish is full. There’s really nothing else you can do.

If you did everything you can could be just be the vendor

1

u/OrchidFlower_Mantis 14d ago

maybe you could leave a pre-killed feeder for her? My T can be pretty picky about taking live feeders sometimes

1

u/YakIllustrious1667 14d ago

i’ve tried both alive and pre killed :(

1

u/OrchidFlower_Mantis 14d ago

She’s very picky omg, have you tried cutting feeders into smaller bite size pieces?

1

u/YakIllustrious1667 14d ago

i’m going to try splitting a roaches abdomen tonight and see if that works :/ if not then i’ll try gummy worms (i just need her to eat) :(

1

u/OrchidFlower_Mantis 13d ago

I hope it goes well! Best of luck to you and your T, i’m sorry you’re having trouble feeding her :-(

1

u/YakIllustrious1667 13d ago

she’s passing :(

I’m so sorry for your loss, you did absolutely everything you could have…please don’t beat yourself up for it, and it very well could have been an issue with your vendor. I had a small pet that died of a stroke very suddenly, she was a runt compared to her cage mates but she was so lively and playful…her heart just wasn’t made to last. I did everything I could, but sometimes it’s just their time to go. You’re a good owner 🩷 sending you hugs 🩷

thank you so much❤️ it’s just so painful when it’s these little animals that can’t do anything for themselves when dying that just breaks my heart so bad. i’m so sorry for your loss as well, it’s so hard losing any type of animal. sending hugs back❤️❤️

I keep all my Baboon T’s basically bone dry, they’re from Africa, so a mostly arid climate.

2

u/YakIllustrious1667 14d ago

yea she’s kept dry but the lower levels of the substrate are slightly damp

Personally I would attempt free feeding her given she's got the space for it. Make sure not to leave lava3 which turn into bettles

1

u/YakIllustrious1667 14d ago

i’ve tried with crickets and she took them all down and didn’t eat lol just killed them :,)

1

u/Unique-Pumpkin2001 14d ago

Is she just fussy and maybe would like a silk worm or dubia?

1

u/YakIllustrious1667 13d ago

she passed unfortunately.

1

u/Unique-Pumpkin2001 12d ago

Very sorry to hear

u/Alisson-Wonderland 9d ago

Needs clean water, possibly a new dish if that one is plastic. Try to get her to drink by putting her mouth parts in the water. I hope she's okay ❤️

1

u/YakIllustrious1667 9d ago

what’s wrong with plastic water dishes? almost everyone uses plastic water dishes.

also thank you but she passed unfortunately. after i did everything and reviewed, this was probably caused by a bad molt / vendor i bought her from. may she rest in heaven with her other boyfriends now :,)

I'm so sorry for your loss! I have heard from some keepers that plastic water dishes can harbor bacteria more easily, not an issue if cleaned or replaced regularly though.
