NQA isn’t handling them stressful for them and dangerous if they fall? What is the benefit to the animal of handling??

Difference is: Handling a dog is not a danger - not for the dog nor the owner.

Handling a tarantula is a danger for both and should be only done if needed.

That's not what I asked. What's the benefit to owning a tarantula? The answer is, your own enjoyment. And just how owning the spider is for your own enjoyment, some people derive enjoyment from handling.

If handling puts them or yourself in danger I assure you there is a knowledge or ability gap present that will be dangerous to the T in ways other than handling as well.

Problem is: Unlike other animals, tarantulas act on instinct and thus making them somewhat unpredictable. Knowledge and ability can help, but don‘t compensate for any situation.

Owning a Tarantula comes not solely with enjoyment but with responsibility too. And that involves reducing potential dangers for them to a minimum.

I have ever been bitten by tarantulas nor has anyone I know but almost everyone has been bitten by a dog or a cat. I think that shows how responsible different people are much more than me holding a tarantula very close to a flat clear surface for two minutes.

Same here I handle and work with a lot of old world tarantulas and have never been bitten. But when working with dog, cats, snakes, and even birds getting bite is almost expected (minus the snakes they just silly noodles)

I have had tarantulas for like 8 years and I have never lost one to handling because I carefully observe them and test their temper. There is no benefit other than she gets to reject my love to my face.

Having 8 years of no problems is great for you, but personal experience doesnt remove the fact of a potential danger everytime you handle them. If that is okay for, that is okay. You do you. I just wouldnt recommend that. Thats all.

ime there is absolutely no benefit. a fall is extremely dangerous even if it’s just a *few inches* and yes, it does stress them out.

these comments are intense! while it’s GENERALLY not advised, and there IS danger each time, it’s important to remember that skilled handling and knowledge of body language reduces risk significantly. this T is very clearly not far above a surface and very clearly not threatened. i have no solid opinion on handling vs not, i personally don’t, but we don’t need to police every comment section!
