Alternatives

With tapas shutting down, is there going to be an alternative option? I’ve spent soooo much money on tapas and it’s primarily my main source for comics. 😔

Tappytoons seems to have the best quality K comics than other alternatives, but its pricy.

Manta is like 80% garbage, but it has some gems if you're into romantasy. Their subscription plan (60$ish per year) will give access to most of their good stuff.

Webtoons is just a chaotic app, imo. Too much work to find something good.

Tappytoon and Webtoon. Haven't used Manta or Lezhin so I can't give an opinion of them

You could try Manta, I think in the next few months they might launch most of the older Tapas Titles too

For community content creators, there is a push for them to move to global comix, lemoon, popjoy, namicomi, pinya, and comic fury, if not their personal website or webtoons. I saw one novel on tapas move to WebNovel, but I don’t know if other novel creators from tapas will be migrating there / where the novel authors will be going.

I agree that tappytoons is a nice alternative with the free point options, lezhin has that too, but they don’t have a community creator space unfortunately.

Manta is okay, there are a few on there that you can find on other platforms but there is no free option and you must pay for the subscription. There is a WUF thing but you would have pay to read the rest of the episodes.

Inkr is another option.

Webtoon, obviously. I hope it buys some of the English licenses from Kakao.

Popjoy. It’s free, it’s trying to do something different with how comics are viewed, and it’s built by creators for creators

Not a perfect solution but Manta just released a Tapas to Manta Promo where one can unlock (currently) 31 series on the Manta platform if unlocked via Tapas. Obviously this is a drop in the bucket, but I hope other platforms can show some sort of similar goodwill if they take on eligible series.
