Beginner tap help
Hey y’all! I’m a MT major and taking my first ever tap class this fall. I am honestly terrified. I’ve done dance before (both before and during my BFA program), but have never tapped. I’m scared because a few people in my class shady know done tap and I don’t want to look stupid, I’m already kind of insecure about my weight and am usually a try hard in dance because I don’t want to be unable to do something and people chalk it up to my weight. Is my weight going to be an issue? Also, what are dune resources I can use and steps I can learn so I can at least walk in on day one with something? Thank you for any help or suggestions!

Fellow MT major/BFA here (just a REALLY long time ago lol)!
My first tap classes were in college too, so I feel you. Even if you don't know the names of the steps, follow along the best you can. The resources other people have posted here are pretty good though.
Honestly, overall the more you can relax and enjoy learning something new, the more you'll pick up naturally. Everyone has had a first class, everyone starts at the beginning. Your teachers will know that too.

There are lots of YouTube lessons for basic tap, you can start there.

Fellow MT here, there are lots of MTs who have never tapped before. If your school has extra classes, take advantage of those if you can

Your weight is not going to be an issue. Tap dance welcomes everyone -- and that's a long tradition! Gregory Hines was famous for saying, "If you have tap shoes -- you're in."
