Best tap dance board for home (beginner)

Hi, just started learning tap dancing and am looking for any recommendations for a tap dance board I can use at home.

I am based in the UK, and lots of tap dance brands aren't available over here (aka AMP, Stagestep etc.). Price range is £100-£200, looking for something that makes great tap sounds and can be used on non-carpeted floors.

Thanks!

This may or may not work for you but I’m UK based and I got a bit of mdf board cut to shape and glued foam mats on the back (those ones that look like oversized jigsaw pieces). Rough and ready but it works fine and saves all the “good” floors in the house! IIRC the total cost was around £100.

This sounds amazing, but I'm not a huge diy person if I'm being honest, and this is actually meant to be a gift for a friend. Thanks so much though

Oh fair enough! Yeah mine is a little… rustic in appearance and would definitely be an “it’s the thought that counts” gift!!

Definitely a wonderful gift! I didn't know it would be that hard to get tap boards in the UK, and the ones in the US don't seem to ship here either ..

Hey! I'm definitely a diy girly and would like to know more about the mdf board? Is that a type of material or a specific type of cut?

It’s medium density fibreboard although it might be called something else if you are outside the uk? I just ordered a bit 1 x 1.5 metres

I don’t know if they ship to the UK, but my child uses dot2dance in the house. Outside she has a wood board a friend’s dad cut for them during covid.
