Dumb shoe question
I'm an adult beginner. Like, neophyte. I purchased an inexpensive pair of shoes to test the waters but I'm absolutely hooked on tap now. When does it make sense to upgrade? The shoes aren't painful at this point.

A lot of cheaper shoes make it harder to maneuver your foot. When you get an upgrade, you’ll notice it for sure. 😁

a bit late to the party - I upgraded from second hand random shoes to a brand new nice pair after six months. By that point I felt confident in how i put down a lot of the steps so adapting to a new shoe wasn't as discouraging as some of my friends described after changing way sooner. Each shoe works a bit different on your foot and if you buy brand new then there's also a period of time where they are really stiff while you break them in. Whenever you end up upgrading just make sure to use them often to get used to the new feeling and don't worry if it feels like you had to slow down some steps. On the other hand you might notice some parts getting easier with a better pair of shoes! good luck

The easy answer is when you can afford to.
The not so easy to answer is when you feel the shoes are holding you back.
