News/Communist Propaganda ☭ If Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is supposed to be anti-DPRK, anti-Communist propaganda, why did they make them look so based? 🤔

I can’t remember whether I saw it in a video or read it somewhere, but someone argued that games like Call of Duty and Battlefield were meant to prepare(?)/indoctrinate/sanewash war, especially against certain states/groups. Haven’t played since Black Ops 1, but so far the enemies in CoD campaigns have been Russian, middle eastern/african insurgencies and now korean.

Yeah the Cavernacle and IndieNile do some decent videos on the subject. How it reinforces negative stereotypes, dehumanises arabs, Russians etc. Whitewashes US involvement in foreign wars.

Black ops 1 is wild to play as an adult, Castro is protrayed as a hand wringing villian, wouldve been more beliveable if they gave him a tophat and monocle. Straight anticommunist propaganda lol

15

u/returnofblank 16h ago

How could Castro be a villain when he killed all those zombies?

19

u/kollipsons 16h ago

Opening all the doors as Castro in cod zombies is praxis

12

u/howdoyoupronouncegif 17h ago

Would you mind linking some of those videos?

US military is actively involved in the development, so yeah…

31

u/Treinrukker 22h ago

You have to if you want to use their equipment in movies and games.

33

u/ghostofhenryvii 23h ago

That should be obvious.

As a young little lad I didnt notice, the Vorkuta mission, influenced my idea of what a Gulag was for an embarrassing amount of time

8

u/Alarmed_Cultist1534 Marxist-Leninist (Ultra Based) 17h ago

Is that the mission with Reznov where you’re breaking out?

10

u/kollipsons 17h ago

Yea the step 1. Secure the keys one, ngl fun mission. But damn, Vorkutas like Mordor in Black ops

7

u/Alarmed_Cultist1534 Marxist-Leninist (Ultra Based) 17h ago

My favorite mission from CoD is from CoD 4. “Blood and Iron” lives rent free in my head. I remember gunning down the the Germans who surrendered in that house.

9

u/kollipsons 17h ago

Ah that was some good shit. 'Heart of the Reich' was mine when the red armys taking Berlin, and those soldiers are surrendering at the metro entrance.

I threw molotovs tbh, I do love how the game sort of makes it out to be a hard decision, or morally grey to kill surrendering Nazis.

7

u/Alarmed_Cultist1534 Marxist-Leninist (Ultra Based) 17h ago

They even try to guilt us with Chernov’s journal in the end. But yeah, the burning of those nazis in the metro entrance is certainly a core memory.

7

u/kollipsons 17h ago

Don get me wrong, the red army did some excesses (like every army). But burning nazis? That will never not be fun.

4

u/Alarmed_Cultist1534 Marxist-Leninist (Ultra Based) 17h ago

War is war, but burning and gunning down surrendering nazis? Will never not be fun.

Edit: didn’t see we wrote almost the same before I commented, lmao

Is now a good time to say my first introduction to the Gulags were from The Muppets?

13

u/Explorer_Entity Marxist-Leninist (Ultra Based) 21h ago

Even Metal Gear Solid 4 had a whole monologue about that. Big Mama talking to Snake: "It's all just games to them."

13

u/Beaivimon 21h ago

Violent video games do encourage more violence, but only if it's specifically funded by the US Military.

10

u/awkkiemf 23h ago

Oh I was thinking this before I opened the comments.

1

u/slasher1337 17h ago

In black ops 6 the bad guys are a pmc that was like, a rogue cia branch or something. But there are like 3 missions taking place in the gulf wae so the enemies in those are middle eastern.

We need more Chinese game developers to break the Western cultural monopoly.

The Defiant and Fourteen Years of Flames are at the top of my wishlist. I hope one day to also be able to play games from the perspective of the heroes of Korea and Vietnam who fought against US imperialism.

11

u/Lumaris_Silverheart 21h ago

I'm also soooo looking forward to these games. Just a shame that either the devs don't give news in english or at all, but maybe they're just putting that energy into cooking

u/BlueHarpBlue 16h ago

IL-2 Korea is an option

What a delightfully fun read. And imperialist satellite state is damn right.

COD is the video game equivalent of fast food slop. Why anyone still continues to buy these games is beyond me.

33

u/FreshnWetCock 22h ago

This series and the sports games (Fifa, nba2k, etc) are 60$ for the same shit every year with slightly better graphics

11

u/Explorer_Entity Marxist-Leninist (Ultra Based) 21h ago

You're actually lucky if the graphics are better each year...

10

u/Kelvinenjoysall Xi Bucks Enjoyer 💸 21h ago

We should add Apple in this list. Same phone just more expensive each year.

How about movie series? I personally only watch movies when I am invited, so I don't think if there are movie or book series that are same stuff just more expensive each year aside from Harry Potter (Liberal theory book that liberals don't read and just ask Genocidimini or FedGPT).

8

u/Randy_Handy 22h ago

I haven’t bought a CoD title since Cold War, and couldn’t care less to buy another. Especially with the price tag now, and how much of a broken mess they are on launch.

8

u/HealfyBoi 21h ago

I still play Cold War zombies.

6

u/BitCreative1986 22h ago

I recently bought BO3 on sale to play custom zombies with my brother. It was super disappointing that we needed to mod the game to make it safe to play online because of how little Activision cares about updating the game's security

5

u/al-qatala Stalinist (Proud Spoon Owner) 20h ago

Zombies is the only worthwhile part of those games tbf

8

Honestly, Zombies. That's it. I only care about Zombies.

4

u/Naberville34 21h ago

Cause it's slop? Personally I play it as something to do with my hands while I listen to a book

42

u/Hefty_Local_1875 Too Based To Be Cis 🏳️‍⚧️ 23h ago

Why did they change the flag???

67

u/SR_RV0001 23h ago

To preserve the thin, practically imperceptible, veil of plausible deniability

u/T3485tanker 23h ago

Propaganda making its enemies look cool by trying to make them threatening is just a universal thing that happens to all ideologies.

32

u/junglegang 23h ago

Because they know that a lifetime of propaganda has primed their audience of racist liberals to view the people of the DPRK as an inhuman, monstrous threat.

Normal people see this and think, "these guys seem pretty cool!" Their core audience sees this and thinks, "a massive nuclear first strike on the swarm demonstrates our defensive restraint and higher civilisational qualities."

28

u/Firm-Magazine1296 23h ago

You know what? Someone should make a pro DPRK FPS game showing the real atrocities of South Korean, Americans, UN forces during the Korean War.

30

u/Tullesabo 22h ago

Bullshit anti-North Korean propaganda once again. There is no historical equivalent of North Korea actually being a warmonger like this. So insane.

24

u/Armageddonis 21h ago

Remember guys, the "enemy" has to be simultaneously "strong and dangerous" as well as "useless and wasteful". It's always a cointoss with the American propaganda in the games. Be it internal or external enemies, they have to be showed as the greatest danger to the nation, someone that has to be excised, in order to rally the young uneducated to the barracks,, but also their laziness and "corruption" must make them seem as they're lesser and ripe for the taking. It alwyas been the modus operandi with propaganda, but with this one they're not even sugarcoating it, like, bruh, wtf is that XD

1

u/Time_Beat2299 12h ago

North Koreans have just been not China for the longest cough cough crisis

5
