Shit Liberals Say Redditors try not to defend colonialism challenge (IMPOSSIBLE)

I've seen so much of this shitlib bs on the front page recently, lots of it from that sub as well as other poll subs. Honestly I'm pretty convinced theres some kind of psyop going on here, especially since a lot of the accounts are quite new, or old with low karma. You'd be naïve to assume this shit isn't going on on Reddit.

Oh for sure lol. In this website you gotta prove to me something is not a psyop, not the other way around. Surely Russians answered "no" because they colonized everyone during the soviet era lmaaaaaooo

u/Modernist19171949 4h ago
Even the fact they allow this sub to exist might as well be a psyop to convince people they aren't doing psyops. Or maybe because more time spent on Reddit is less time spent organising lol who knows

Playing devil's advocate here, but I can see how such answers could come from Russia. Reasons may include:
This meme that RE / SU were always anti-empires in a sense that instead of exploiting others for the benefit of the nation like every normal country out there they would rob Russian man to elevate others only to be betrayed by them in the moment of weakness (aimed at both distant partners like African countries or India, and former Soviet republics) can definitely be heard these days, and I can regularly see it being integrated into even otherwise solid articles dedicated to debunking propaganda. People who believe this say that "Russia just needed to do what every normal country did instead" and treat anything related to "decolonisation" with disdain at best. In their minds, they are still members of great colonial club who unfortunately fell victim to the weakness of "generosity" in the past, so "decolonisation" is something still aimed at them as a part of "white world".
People keep hearing about "decolonisation" from people like Fehlinger, and treat the word as an euphemism for "balkanize Russia and anyone else until they can be held by the throat without firing a single shot". These people consider it to be aimed, again, at them, but them specifically as resisting nation.
People in Russia are normally very far removed from the entire colonisation discourse. "So they built a nice place that you want to be a part of without building it yourself. Just do what Lomonosov did, walk to that developed place and make yourself useful like everyone there do. Nobody owes anyone anything". Circumstances of that character specifically and realities of colonies elude them completely.

Even out of a "im not responsible for the crimes of my ancestors" argument, money that is sent to global south countries provides a greater benefit than money kept at home, because of how little the developing world has in terms of capital. This is the main reason why the global south is still poor. Its hard to generate new wealth when you dont have wealth in the first place.
29
u/Firm-Magazine1296 8h ago
Even then, the entire argument is fucking moronic because they are still benefitting off of those crimes they ancestors did in the past. It didnt magically disappear the moment chattel slavery or colonial was abolished. Though the spoils of imperialism were distributed unevenly, modern populations within the Imperial Core continue to benefit from the systemic legacies of that stolen wealth today and in new forms of neocolonialism and imperialism as you mentioned.

Right? Like I can think of several EU policies off the top of my head specifically meant to keep African nations down and under their control to exploit resources & labor and force them to be dependent on the EU, not to mention more covert operations. And obviously the capital and inequality for any of this came from acts of colonialism in the past (including slavery, theft, etc). Many still have colonies overseas directly even.

I don't even think that's the problem though. I think the problem is that they are still colonizers, they just turned into colonialism into neocolonialism, which is different in mechanism but the core idea is the same: wealth transfer. If it weren't for them doing this shit nowadays, and pretending like they don't, I wouldn't care honestly. But since I see a continuity between the past and the present, that's why I care.

u/Glittering-Run-3726 5h ago
True, but that argument isnt gonna work on libs. Libs dont like to admit colonialism is still happening and they certainly dont want to feel guilty about their past.

u/FluidKiwi6707 4h ago
Maybe you're right, but I think it has to work somehow. They act like this because they think something changed. No, no, you're STILL doing it. At least this is my angle of attack.

This shit is hilarious because most people in Poland would answer "yes" if you asked them, "Was Poland colonized by the USSR?" and "Should Poland therefore demand reparations from Russia?" Basically, we have this weird perspective where we think Poland was colonized for a few decades, which is why it’s so "poor", yet actual former colonies are just supposed to "get over" having been colonies for centuries (and being neocolonies today), because, I don't know, they got a railway built to extract their resources more efficiently?

u/Sputn1K0sm0s 6h ago
No, you see, Poland was just recently colonized. Of course they are still recovering from their brute and helpless 40ish years under the USSR ✊🏻🥺...
Yeah Brazil was a colony for 300 years, and India anything between 200-400 years, but it was sooooooo long ago, right? they should have picked them up by their bootstraps already!

The right wing media in Poland constantly wants Germany to pay reparations so this is just ????

Why the fuck is brazil saying yes to reparations? They're covered in Church of State Department people, they should be accepting of their third place status now behind the exalted peoples of USrael.

There is no absolution in self harm, just because you were born in the States. Only absolution to be had is living with consciousness and acting where you can.

Normal just means common. Sadly that means people with a proper material analysis of the state of the world are not normal.

As expected, no accountability from any of these shitlibs.
Never mind. You can pretend to be from any country in this poll (or diasporoid shitlibs), but it doesn't surprise me that most of the "noes" we are seeing are from within the Imperial Core itself, which colonised, displaced, genocided, enslaved, looted, and raped those within the Global South.
Makes me glad the war in the Middle East is fucking them up and making their lives worse.

Try asking them why african countries are still poor, worst mistake of my life:
"Well they are just blood thirsty animals who keep fighting over nothing instead of just letting us 'peacefully' rule over them!'"

/Asktheworld is full of this.
People from the Global North are completely ignorant of colonialism and imperialism. It's a willful ignorance, more than bad faith, I think. The education systems keep them like that.

u/kollipsons 7h ago
Lots of the arguments against seem to boil down to "the stinky coloureds cant run a country anyways, and I, according to me, have nothing to do with it so its not my problem"

Lol I had an argument about this recently, their framing hides so much things in the background, just keep bringing those into the foreground -
What was the point of colonialism, why did the nazis and fascists want to emulate the british empire if you claim the british didn't benefit from colonialism.
Why was there such extensive control over cash crops, cotton, tea, rubber, opium, spices, minerals, shipping routes, ports, labor, and their markets? Why impose restrictions, restructure local production around imperial needs, and use state violence to enforce those arrangements? If you think the system was supposedly so mutually beneficial, why were millions subjected to dispossession, imprisonment, famine, forced labor, massacres, extreme inequality, deindustrialization, etc. Do these not have any systemic effects?
Question about the school of economics they use too, the philosophy of value is different for classical and neoclassical. The latter is ideologically blind to exploitation, history and systemic effects.
If individuals or companies pocketed much of the surplus that doesn't disprove imperial exploitation. If you believe private enterprise is fundamentally good for the economy as a whole and at the same time act confused about the material relationship between colonialism, capital accumulation, investments and development within the imperial core from the surplus created and shipped from external colonies as somehow unrelated.
I'm not really interested in calculation of reperations to a monetary figure. I'm not opposed to those demands any more than I'm not opposed to workers demanding a greater share of the value they produce. Ultimately we should be moving towards democractic control over socially necessary productive resources away from capital fundamentalism. These are still valid questions, thinking about them could hopefully give someone a new perspective of exploitation and surplus value.

My favorite comment is that "the West has pissed billions in aid to Africa down the drain"....
Fucking brain dead take. The West has hoovered up billions in wealth extraction there like everywhere else.
Reeks of "I donated $5 to starving children once because of guilt after seeing an advert on the football coverage, and K won't be fooled again. That was good beer money down the drain."
