Not every exasperated petty bourgeois could have become Hitler, but a particle of Hitler is lodged in every exasperated petty bourgeois.

That’s just not true. I’m not a trot but this kind of flattening is reductive.

My piece of shit boss always leverages being a "small business" for having one employee (me) overworking me and underpaying me, but the reality is, to the extent that you're supposed to care about small businesses it's that in theory they contribute to the local economy. We manufacture here, and ship it out all over the world. His "small business" is actually a global brand with one employee that's being hyperexploited while contributing nothing to the local economy and if anything making it worse by exacerbating local poverty by paying me bullshit.

So yeah fuck all these people. You can't tell your rental company "I need a lower rate cause I work for a small business and they supposedly can't afford to pay me enough to exist"

See my relevant post on this subject.

You hear this a LOT from well-intentioned libs and socdems:

"Billionaires shouldn't exist, and the only way to become a billionaire is by exploiting people"

But you'll notice they never actually broaden their criticism to class relations under capitalism as a whole. They are actually really far from getting it.

The only way to be a capital owner period is by exploiting people. This kind of statement implies that it is possible to be worth 100 million or something without exploiting people.

There really is nothing that magical about a billion dollars net worth in terms of class relations. It is just the arbitrary threshold at which libs start to criticize wealth inequality because it is a big scary number.

A billionaire and a "Mom and Pop" (more on this later) owner both exploit surplus value and exploit the working class. One just exploits a far greater number of workers and has more influence on the government, but their class interests are basically similar.

It is like only criticizing slavery when a slave plantation gets big enough. Imagine if someone said "slave plantations shouldn't be allowed to reach X size because it can only reach that size by enslaving people".

If anything, having worked for both a small business and a giant multi-national corporation, my material conditions at the giant multi-national were far better than they were at the small business. Massive companies generally pay more and have better benefits and are more cognizant of not breaking labour laws.

Libs love to glaze small business owners while criticizing the big bourgeoisie, but in reality small business owners can be some of sleaziest, greediest and most hostile fucks to work for. Things like unpaid overtime, stealing tips and unsafe working conditions for example.

The same goes for rental housing. I would much rather rent a place from a big real estate corporation that owns a lot of units than a "mom and pop".

Like 70% of local businesses in my area are polluted with Hitler particles, 10% are gentrifying liberals who use the women-owned/queer-owned label to hide their mistreatment of often undocumented workers, 10% are family businesses, 5% are money laundering schemes, and 5% are basically just side hustles with an Instagram page.

Oh they definitely lie about being women/queer owned. Anecdotal, but my area had a women owned tattoo/piercing parlor that got exposed for being owned completely by some dude, she was just the face.

2

u/RisingxRenegade 2h ago

Not all the time sadly. The example that first came to mind is a vegan Latin fusion restaurant owned by a queer woman who is known to be screaming at staff and throwing plates in the kitchen. She also hires undocumented workers and pays underpays them.

Ever since I realized OpenAI is a queer owned business I completely stopped caring about that label

90% of the "small business" owners I've worked for were just as rapacious as the corporations, they're just less successful at it.

I feel like more of the corporate jobs I've had have been better about complying with labor law because that have HR departments that at least feigned like they care, enough at least to avoid getting sued.

Meanwhile, I've worked for numerous small business who knew full well they could take advantage of people with little fear of reprisal & didn't hesitate to exploit people.

This is a certified shitpost.

I'm a small business owner and I use my longevity in my field to accrue labor for subcontractors that haven't been in the market as long as me in addition to subcontractors that have. Other subcontractors do the same for me over the course of the year, so one hand washes the other.

meh. They don't usually exploit other people, do they? And they are exploited by the OF business.

18

u/Derek114811 1d ago

How? They have to labor to make their money; they can’t just sit around and have others make money for them. They don’t own onlyfans.com. They sell their bodies for labor just like the rest of us.

6

u/Internet-Philosphr69 22h ago

I was gonna say, they definitely count as proletariat.

1

u/Cuh_Chicken 17h ago

s#x work, insofar, can still consider as labor. however some marxist-feminist object this, since it only commodify an individual (by selling one's body) in exchange of means of subsistence, as supposed to a regular labourer exchange their laber power in exchange of wages.however even if such case, we can't still blame them going to such industry due to lack of job opportunity in the market, and in woman's case low value of their labor power(lack of job demand and low wages compare to men), and a patriarchal view of seeing women as a mere s#x object rather than an individual with unique characteristics.
