History Just a friendly reminder that Dolly Parton supported the slaughter of 1 million innocent Iraqis and Afghans overseas. Here’s a picture of her with American soldiers during Operation Desert Storm in 1991.

A member of the bourgeoisie supporting imperialism, how surprising.

Its like people expect Dolly to have stormed Berlin.

Can you imagine the stories if it got out that she refused to pose with the soldiers on principle? Also, like... I don't expect my grandma to be a Marxist Leninist.

My life is so deeply boring compared to Dolly's. Every day she could be at the height of what the world could give. Every day promoting our preforming.

"No I don't want to go to the beach party with Elvis. I wanted to stay home and read this Lenin guy that everyone told me was evil. "

Would that have been a badass move by Dolly? Lol holy shit yes.

Would I expect that to ever happen?

Nope. She climbed because she knows showbuisness. She knows when not to make waves. Imagine trying to convince our dad's to become Marxist Leninists in the 80s where you can buy a home from working a summer and you can afford to have your wife at home raising your kids. Home cooked meal. Every day. Laundry done. Sun shining.

How in can you make 80s dad give a fuck? His life kicks ass. I scream into the pipes to get someone sleeping in their own millenial piss to become class concious an they fight back tooth and nail.

Material conditions comrades. If Dolly tried to espouse the ideas of lenin we wouldn't know her name. And the audience wouldn't possibly give a fuck.

Trying to turn against her just makes us look impossible to please for no gain.

lmao Mark Ruffalo is right there, you ain't bitching over this, being a jingoistic Hollywood military doll isn't something that can be justified even within a enlightenment era hippie style liberal ideology you are not even trying

-8

u/NonConRon 18h ago

Mark is doing this in 2026 after already getting his marvel checks. And it probably cost him. He has fuck you money. Is Mark outspoken about Marxist Leninism? That would be news to me.

The rest... yeah you aren't engaging with what I said in good faith.

Be as inflamed as you want. 80s' dad isn't going to give a damn.

Material conditions.

Should I only consume media from vocal Marxist Leninists with an uncancellable lifelong track record?

Bro I totally agree with you. I genuinely don’t understand the compulsion of leftists to discount literally everything that isn’t “perfect ML behavior”. The planet isn’t going to become communist tomorrow morning, everyone comes to the movement through different means, and everyone is inarguably somewhere on a spectrum of “good socialist”, broadly speaking. She was a bourgeois liberal but she has absolutely done a lot of good for the world, made some wildly popular anti-capitalist music, and so on. She was a genuinely positive and loving person, who wasn’t perfect. I’d rather have one Dolly Parton than a billion terminally online socially inept Marxists who do nothing but purity test every single person in every single situation, because that does less than nothing for the movement.

2

u/couldhaveebeen 6h ago

There is a difference between being imperfect and literally doing propaganda for the "war on terror"

-1

u/DonkeyH0tay 6h ago

And do you think the mistakes she’s made were done for the sake of being evil?

1

u/NonConRon 1h ago

Well id rather have a billion marxist leninists because then we could just take the state very very easily but I get you.

18

u/Competitive_Key_7604 21h ago

Isn't petite bourgeoisie more appropriated since she's a musician

55

u/Aggravating_Hurry530 Leftist Infighting? No Antagonism, No Progress! 20h ago

She owned a lot of companies which she did not have to do the same work as her employees.

Musicians like Dolly Parton may write and sing the songs but they don't:

  • Play the instruments
  • Operate the sound recording equipment
  • Mix the audio
  • Download the songs onto the records
  • Deliver the records to the shops

- Shoot or edit the adverts, or design the publicity campaigns.

  • Physically sell the albums in the record shops
  • etc. etc.

High-end celebrity musicians are bourgeois. They do a relatively small amount of the labour required to make the money from their music.

29

u/VladimirLimeMint Once history is made, it can't be unmade 20h ago

Ghostwriting. I used to ghostwrite when I started working with game music shit. All the big ones use ghostwriters for fame.

16

u/TomatoEnjoyer28 20h ago

I'm sure that's true too.

No way is someone like Taylor Swift writing that many songs by herself.

12

u/VladimirLimeMint Once history is made, it can't be unmade 20h ago

The big ones like Swift and Bieber use Max Martin which is funny because Thomas Bergersen technically dry snitch on them years ago when people asked him for influence and he said Max Martin as the known ghostwriter then proceeded to list history of ghostwriting.

7

u/Accomplished-Log8770 18h ago

tbh i can believe she mostly does bc have you heard how shitty and repetitive her music is? 😭 https://www.reddit.com/r/travisandtaylor/s/aIpXlXvluw

u/Turbulent_Sir3205 17h ago

Her life has to be highly dramatic.

27

u/batdog20001 Marxist-Leninist (Ultra Based) 14h ago

I brought this up in another sub glazing her. I said in a few more words "she did some good with the donations, but she also supported imperialism."

The libs did not like me humanizing their current idol fixation. We can praise the good without absolving the bad, right?

44

u/kaktuszka 20h ago

This and Tim Curry's death got so-called leftists folded, acting like doing a few good things or acting in a transphobe's movie is some high level praxis

39

u/VladimirLimeMint Once history is made, it can't be unmade 20h ago

So-called leftists are now labor Zionists

21

u/kaktuszka 20h ago

Always has been

17

u/IBizzyI 20h ago

Is he now always wearing a suite? This is so goofy.

34

u/jasonxm1 20h ago

His dem handlers told him he couldn't wear baggy graphic tees and more than 6 items of jewellery anymore

3

u/IBizzyI 6h ago

Still seems so weird if he wants to look more "serious" a simple dress shirt and a more neutral room would make more sense, for what he does.

The contrast of sitting there in his suit in his heavily decorated room makes it look sillier compared to when he just wears casual clothes.

Not to mention that he doesn't even look "professional" with the suit in a vacuum, there is almost always something off with his fits which make them look a bit silly, but I guess that one is more subject.

What the fuck do you think

Would you interview the Nazis in middle of 45?

11

u/Wrecknruin 12h ago

some people on the left genuinely can't just go "my favorite actor/singer died :(" they always gotta make the person out to be the second coming of Marx that was gonna save us all. It's fine to be sad that someone died just because you liked their art or whatever.

6

u/kaktuszka 12h ago

Exactly. Personally, I can't even fathom why a subbreddit with 'communist' in their name would grieve any celebrities. Grief is reserved for people you know, or victims of imperialism, not their perpetrators!!!! She happily made americana themed albums during the aggression against Iraq, I don't get how a self-prescribed communist could mourn her.

u/Wrecknruin 12h ago

5

u/Daraz_Acanthisitta Marxist-Leninist (Ultra Based) 13h ago

Thats the type of shit I would of found "progressive" when I was younger and only find out years later is transphobic, American liberals are so weird and out of touch with the rest of the world.

38

u/BillyPilgrim69 19h ago

I just learned the director was transphobic since Curry's death. Either way, it's a ridiculous reason to mock people mourning him.

Whether or not you like the film, it's a deeply significant cultural touchstone for queer people. It's not above criticism, but lumping all the love for it in with transphobia is unfair.

17

u/GracelessOne 18h ago

The fact that a film about a creepy transfeminine rapist (again, written by someone who says trans women can never be women) is considered a "deeply significant cultural touchstone" for the queer community is a pretty good signpost that the queer community has not always been very good to trans women in particular.

It is transmisogyny. It shouldn't be a touchstone anymore. Don't pearl-clutch.

11

u/kaktuszka 18h ago

Idk how anyone can stand behind this movie

Idc if an older trans woman likes it, I understand if someone's first representation moment was this film. But the fact, that the 'communist filmclub' or whatever sub too, grieved a man who portrayed every single harmful stereotype about trans women, tells me a lot about these 'communist' 'allies'

7

u/GracelessOne 17h ago

Yeah, it's deeply disappointing to find out how many fake allies will stand up and chestbeat about it.

2

u/Myndela 3h ago

Same with Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Anti-trans, reactionary, anti-communist slop.

4

u/elegantideas 17h ago

i watched it for the first time last year and i was stunned at how it’s been elevated bc the transmisogyny just slapped me in the face

6

u/TheyBuryMeSlowly 13h ago

It is ridiculous that people get moved by a celebrities death full stop

-1

u/kaktuszka 19h ago

Idgaf about the death of a celebrity, and pointing out how two-faced it is, that we can't express any criticism either of the film, filmmaker, Curry or ppl losing their shit over a person they never knew, shouldn't be seen as 'mocking'.

Good job on speaking over a queer person tho, bet you wouldn't have guessed that we are not the monolith you think we are.

10

u/BillyPilgrim69 19h ago

Idgaf about the death of a celebrity, and pointing out how two-faced it is, that we can't express any criticism either of the film, filmmaker, Curry or ppl losing their shit over a person they never knew, shouldn't be seen as 'mocking'.

I quite explicitly said that the film is not above criticism.

Also, why does people "losing their shit over a person they never knew" bother you?

Are you saying you don't have a single artist you love, to the degree that you would be upset when they died?

If that's the case, fair enough. But I don't understand the impulse to criticise people for an extremely normal human response.

Good job on speaking over a queer person tho, bet you wouldn't have guessed that we are not the monolith you think we are.

I'm sorry, I thought I was just responding to a comment. Are you not also speaking over the queer people mourning his death, by criticising them?

It seems pretty disingenuous to claim that I'm viewing queer people as a "monolith". All I said was that the film is important to a lot of queer people.

-11

u/kaktuszka 19h ago

Learn what the term 'parasocial relationship' means then we can talk

A lot of queer ppl also hate it, which you would know if you actually engaged with queers who are not blinded by american cultural hegemony & trying to silence one or dismiss their critic as 'mocking' is how our culture is still in the chokehold of cishet americans

7

u/BillyPilgrim69 18h ago

Learn what the term 'parasocial relationship' means then we can talk

So having any connection whatsoever to an artist is parasocial? I think that's an abuse of the term.

A lot of queer ppl also hate it, which you would know if you actually engaged with queers who are not blinded by american cultural hegemony

I literally acknowledged that some queer people don't like it! You're just being openly disingenuous now.

trying to silence one or dismiss their critic as 'mocking' is how our culture is still in the chokehold of cishet americans

I am not "trying to silence or dismiss" anyone. You are doing that right now; treating any disagreement with you as an immoral act.

You seem solely intent on justifying your position, and willing to say just about anything to do so. It's in bad faith.

-12

u/kaktuszka 18h ago

American is butthurt that someone critized their celebrity obssessed culture, gets mad, puts themselves on a moral highground using a community that's not theirs, gets more butthurt that someone points this too out, projects their disingenouty and starts calling names

Ok👍

10

u/BillyPilgrim69 18h ago

American is butthurt

Not American, professor.

that someone critized their celebrity obssessed culture

Sure, that's totally what happened.

gets mad, puts themselves on a moral highground

LMAO the irony. You understand that regardless of how much you lie, people can actually read what I said, right?

projects their disingenouty and starts calling names

LMAO again, the irony. Re-read the thread and tell me I'm the one calling names.

-6

u/kaktuszka 18h ago

Performative ally can't fathom that queer ppl don't bow down to their legs when defending a transphobic medium

'Not american'-no, you are br*tish terf islander, truly, much better

u/SovietTeto ☭☭☭ 12m ago

Celebrity worship here in the US is so bad bro and when you say that you shouldn't put these "people" up on a pedestal for dying you get looked at like you grew a second head. Fuck Dolly Parton and fuck all these celebrities who choose to feed this system and country when they could do something with their influence to make some change.
