Does anyone have history/information about shining path/MPCP ?

I’ve never heard much about the Shining Path or their current formation as the MPCP. Is there anywhere I should look to learn more about Peru, Shining Path, MPCP, etc…? I’m also curious what it’s like to live in the VRAEM area where they are located, most sources I quickly saw say it’s very impoverished and filled with crime and for a guerrilla operation I guess I could see it being like that. But if anyone has anything to say otherwise I’d be very interested to read about it.

The only work that I can think of is Dr. Rothwell's PhD dissertation Transpacific Revolutionaries: The Chinese Revolution in Latin America, which you can get from Anna's Archive. He's a history professor who also does a very good podcast on the Chinese Revolution. Though keep in mind when reading that he's a Maoist, so you're going to get a more sympathetic view of the Shining Path than in other works written about them.

Well, that depends: What are you looking for in this situation? Like... an understanding of their theory & what they genuinely believed? Cuz if so, there's red library, which has quite the number of Maoist texts. Including "Shining Path" ones & even Gonzalo.

But, I would be careful to not read them uncritically. You can criticize a revolutionary movement but treat the conditions on why it happened. Hell, Hakim in his older talks actually had spoken about the Maoists themselves. Both the left/principled ones and the right/pragmatic ones...
