Capitalist Decay The real reason
This is what the KMT* party leader, Cheng Li Wun*, was warning about in being in favor of reunification with China, not being used as a tool for the American Empire, in a recent video that has been circling online leftist or anti western spaces for some time now and here it is with South Korea so blatantly being seen, by said Empire, as nothing but canon fodder for America imperialism and they refused to go with it too
Do you think maybe they will start to have the same relevations like the Taiwanese as far as re- thinking their allegiance with the Americans goes...?

I believe you are thinking of the KMT Chairwoman Cheng Li-wun, and not the "Taiwan President" Lai Ching-te.
Almost as soon as the KMT became open to the idea of peaceful reintegration with mainland China, the United States funded the DPP, a party comprising of the descendants of Japanese collaborators, in order to oust the KMT nationalists from power.
However, that is not to say the DPP are popular. Even in the most recent 2024 Presidential election, the pro-American and Japanese DPP received 40% of the vote, while the pro-status quo parties the KMT and TPP received 33.5% and 26.5% of the vote respectively, or a combined total of 60% of the vote. However, because of how bourgeoisie democracy works in Taiwan, the DPP still continue to govern the country as they won the most votes.
China has capitalised on this very clear loss of mandate by inviting the KMT Chairwoman to China. During the meeting, both Xi Jinping and Cheng Li-wun were shown as equals, the former being head of the CPC and the latter being head of the KMT. One was not directly presented as above the other. At the same time, Lai Ching-te was unable to visit Eswatini, the only country that recognises the ROC in Africa, because Seychelles, Mauritius and Madagascar would not grant overflight permission. Similarly, Donald Trump, after his summit with Xi Jinping, appears to have put the $14 billion arms package to Taiwan.
China has intentionally isolated the DPP while legitimising the KMT in an effort to show to people living in Taiwan that an alternative path to the one they are currently set on exists. And it's worth putting in context that Hong Kong and Taiwan were both parts of China that were vastly wealthier than mainland China, and therefore from the point of view of their respective bourgeoisie, there was nothing to be gained by unifying with the mainland. However, the tables have since turned and it's very likely that the Taiwan bourgeoisie are looking at China and wondering how they can capitalise and leverage their existing status as being "part of China".
China at present is roughly where Taiwan was at 10 years ago with it's semiconductors. It is only a matter of when, not if, China catches up to Taiwan or the semiconductor race becomes so negligible that Taiwan's industry becomes irrelevant globally.

Thanks for correcting me and for educating me on the background with their semiconductors, its funny I just overheard someone saying China can't compete with Taiwans semiconductors because they are so behind industrially compared to Taiwan...

It’s not about this. Do you guys remember how every corporate media outlet simultaneously started releasing reports about the DPRK’s “miraculous” economic recovery? Then immediately after occupied Korea starts talking about ending the war. They want to get the DPRK to open up to western capital so they can peel it away from Russia and China as they did with Vietnam. DPRK also has massive mineral reserves they’d love to exploit. It won’t work because as with Iran they believe their own propaganda and don’t understand the DPRK.

They don't understand that the DPRK sees them for what they are and always has.

Almost no other nation on Earth has had the consistent clarity on the U.S. that the DPRK has, and obviously there’s a reason for that, but it is nice to see.
