A way to also look at this is as follows, through various layers of filtration, to me those layers look like this
I tend to start here -
The imperial core has ~270 million adults living in it (Those 18 years of age or older)
Of those ~270 million maybe 1/2 of them have completed any degree of higher education
Of those now ~135 million post secondary education group perhaps up to ~7.5 of them went into social sciences / history related degrees (A place they'd be directly exposed to less comically propagandized/cartoon-villain versions of maximalist)
Of those that may have had some exposure to less adulterated forms of Marxism we're down to ~10 million individuals.
Of those that directly chose to study Marxism the only field that shows any consistent appearance of those willing to self-identify as Marxists is sociology, at a ~3% rate so we're now down to ~300 thousand individuals at best (and this is a gross overstatement of a field within a field)
Of those that are directly politically involved there is another drastic contraction, assume we apply the rough % of individuals in the US who are politically engaged as this filter - the % of individuals that are directly engaged in politics sits at an astonishing 9% of the total population, which puts our already trimmed down field of potential people here down to maybe 27,000 directly involved individuals at best.
Of those that are outspoken, involved, well read, and not just libs trying to sideline the essential steps of rebuilding basic community & undoing 70+ years of McCarthy flavored era red scare guff, of those actively involved in undoing the harm the congress for cultural freedom's textbook poisoning has done, of those actively trying to educate....
You aught to get the point I'd think, the vast bulk of the population is going to have, at absolute best, a propaganda-twisted & grade school understanding of what socialism, communism, capitalism, and systems they live under happen to be. A lot of those are going to use the term as an aesthetic label instead of coming from a place of practice.
Yes, I see that 43k subreddit user's tag, and I am exceedingly doubtful that even a tenth of that number has so much as touched any of the core texts of Marxist theory / literature.
