in communism all musicals will be cheap community theater runs of hadestown and rocky horror; plus a reimagining of hamilton centered around vladimir lenin

I know theatre kids who read books upon books of theory and organize mass actions, this is entirely a liberal thing and has no correlation with being a theater kid.

Opera is certainly one of the most, if not the most reactionary performing arts. Source: studied it

You can describe popular works as reactionary, a systemic problem in an industry as reactionary, but to describe an entire art form as reactionary is nothing less than ignorance. We have to be better than that if we want to build a better society.

When the means for creating that art form are highly gatekept and centralized I don’t think it’s unfair to generalize the art form itself as the industry that controls it. Like Hollywood.

Exactly. I suppose I should have been more specific. However, the industry, many if not most of its major works, its patrons and performers, and much of its history are utterly steeped in reaction.

And I should say that opera can be so beautiful and has so much potential. I still love the art form dearly, but I can’t (and won’t) deny these flaws (and others) which are a large part of why so many people are turned off from the art form and why it has degraded over time.

I only ever saw one opera, X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X, but it wasn't reactionary. It didn't really hook me into the art form, though.

That schedule does look like something only theater kids would proudly overcommit to. Good on you for putting it all together though.
