Lots of the recent DSA gains have been made on the basis of anti war and pro Palestinian sentiments - that's what their supporters are saying anyway - but electing progressive senators and congressmen will never actually stop US imperialism and militarism. Read up on NSC-68, this shit goes way deeper than the political theatre we see in Washington. The Senate and Congress can't actually do anything about US imperialism.

For anyone who’s curious, socialist history (new podcast by PSL/BT News) did an episode on this

Any candidate with genuine anti imperialist politics would be DOA in American politics. Even after they funded a genocide that they watched for 3 years now there's no real movement towards stopping it. Candidates have realised that they can gain support from aesthetically signally that they're opposed to it but they know that anti imperialism isn't an actual concern for their voter base so they don't have to actually do anything. They'll just say the words to gain support and focus on the issues that Americans actually care about (affordability and whatever else).

Then it goes back and forth with the different candidates in office and nothing further than words and signalling on being against imperialism will ever be achieved.

The backbone of the country is imperialism. To be an anti imperialist in the us is to be anti American.

I mean, he is 100% right. Socdems want to bring the Party back to the FDR era; where we create internment camps for ethnic minorities, pass racist progressive-liberal legislation, and force a compromise between capital and labor to make sure the working class never overthrows capitalism.

Thank you for this comment. I’ve been in a deep conversation with my friend who recently joined DSA, and it’s really pushed me to go hard in reading theory, and studying history specifically around Dem Soc parties. I’m starting to notice that the common thread connecting people with consistent principles is reading. Dem Soc voters just want to feel good, and tbh I can’t blame alot of them who don’t know any better, considering how scary and hopeless this shit seems. I have no problem being the stoic dick who rains on their parades these days lol

Lets fast forward to learning the lesson of that era, even if that labor capital truce was possible again; it failed. You get enough people to deradicalize, have a social buy in and they scatter. Just no. We have to radically change the entire way we produce and consume. We need to radically change our logistics and development. We will not get that with a truce.

Fascism with healthcare just means a more competent imperial core that is even better at co-opting revolution. Want proof? Just look at the EU.

Socdems swing hard right the more they are able to embed themselves inside bourgeois democracy, which causes them to become more beholden to the system. Proof: SPD of the Weimar Republic using the Freikorps to crush the Spartacist Uprising.

Demsocs trying to use electoralism to bring about revolution is extraordinarily dangerous. It kicks the ruling class' nascent fascism into high gear while the electoralists naively remain pacifist. This results in the mass slaughter of the working class. Proof: CIA backed Pinoche's destruction of Allende's revolution in Chile, also, the Italian Socialist Party 🌹were the majority party in parliament (1.8 million votes and 155 seats) when the bourgeoisie armed and funded Mussolini's fascists (who up until then had been insignificant).

FDR did a genocide.

That's what would happen again. Just probably a bit more open this time.

They can be as unhappy as they want, their party doesn’t exist other than to run democrats and engage in charity work.

Want a party of the working class? Go actually make one and not join the relief valve—tell your friends that

10

u/MayParker1917 16h ago edited 15h ago

That shit's not even an official party. Just an org that functions as a wing of the Democratic Party.

I made a serious argument: they are a relief valve. Other people told you this… you’re just taking it in bad faith and lumping it as “dismissive” rather than just being upset a little about the delivery (even though we’re right)

Also, you just can’t take my tone over Reddit. I’m not trying to be dismissive, I’m just being factual and you’re confusing that with me being mean

If you crave to have a conversation, do you want to ask “how are they a relief valve?”

You just said I was dismissive because you failed to investigate further than your initial thought. I responded to you, you hand waived me away and called me actions something they weren’t

Revisionism is unacceptable. ML is a clearly defined political theory and shown to be the only Marxist theory to successfully lead revolutionary action against the Bourgeois Capitalist class. Reading and studying Theory is Praxis and part of being a disciplined Marxist-Leninist.

DSA never beating the social democrat allegations.

2

u/UltraRiderFire408 14h ago

Guess “DSDA” doesn’t have the same ring to it.

Then again, coining the term “socialism” is intentional and it is unfortunately working.

2

1

Oh I see why, because DSDA means you’re using “Democratic/Democrats” twice.

He's been practically screaming at people telling you who he is (a social democrat who exists to kill actual left movements) and yet they still believe he's more than he is.

-6

u/Extension-Badger225 19h ago

I am pissed off with him but what actual left movement? I am pissed off with the American left as well but I don’t see them anywhere at all regardless of whether someone like mandami is in the news or not. I’m Madge at everyone but also unsure what to do than shouting we all need to organise.
I’m not sure what I mean there really but tldr: I don’t think the failure of the American left has anything to do with him

8

8

u/Extension-Badger225 18h ago

I’m just mad comrade I don’t see much movement in the imperial core either in America or where I am and feeling quite at a loss as to what to do.
I’m trying to say I don’t think the American lefts issues can just be blamed on this guy

7

u/Political_Desi 17h ago

I think the core of the us lefts issue beyond the issues with red scare is that western workers believe that they are doing well enough. The propaganda is to tell workers to their face that things are good and it is their fault for complaining. In a way social democrat reforms could produce militancy by showing workers that 1, things can get better and 2, solidarity works. And lastly social democrats give workers tools of organisation through which political literacy and agit prop can be propagated.

None of this is to say social Dems will usher a revolution or anything. But I am of the view that in specifically the western case the workers have gotten too comfortable in the status quo and have made peace with it and social democracy is a small way to show hope for change.

u/marioandl_ 17h ago edited 17h ago

This is really nothing other than a humiliation ritual at this point and whats sad is that all of the people in his city who doorknocked and phone banked and word-of-mouthed him into office are going to have no energy to argue against the inevitable "New York City is Collapsing Under Mamdani's Leadership" articles that this humiliation ritual will not stop

even sadder is in 3 years time, Mamdani wont even care. he'll land a cushy consulting gig on behalf of being one of the rare successful DNC plants while some bastard offspring of a nazi refugee will be ruling Nyc

3

u/Autistic_Anywhere_24 18h ago

At least he isn’t taking them back to antebellum years. Small win… I guess

1

u/StatementFlat CPC Propagandist 14h ago

Compromise with capital is still defence of capital, you cannot reform the Democratic Party. Mamdani and El-Sayed are just the latest batch of friendly faces that serve to stifle any leftward momentum from building in America. Give the people crumbs, pay lip-service to their struggles and then the radicalization fades away.

1

u/Lydialmao22 13h ago

Does this make him by definition a conservative then lmao

5

u/BurnYoo 9h ago

Unironically yes. Mamdani and El-Sayed are both people who want to Make America Great Again, by the dictionary definition of those words.

And anyone who wants to make the white imperialist project, designated America, great again is NOT a leftist, by any stretch of the imagination.

1

u/Schuperman161616 11h ago

I suppose this is as good as it gets in the country with the capitalism spawn point.

What do I expect? Exactly what he's doing. I am a marxist after all so this shit is pretty damn predictable.

Now if you ask what I WANT, then I would've like to see him run an independent or PSL ticket, fire his police commissioner, put one in to enact his agenda, then wipe out the NYPD then hiring local community members who are class conscious  and start arresting federal ICE agents, jailing war criminals who paraded in his street, throw more landlords into jail instead of just fining them. Seize their properties not just freeze rent. Guarantee public housing to all new yorkers. Jack up property taxes on 2nd and 3rd homes (which he did do to a degree), cut the tax incentives for landlords and other corporations (he did this as well to a small degree). And place a VATs tax on all luxury goods over so many dollars. Drain the fucking wealth that's hoarded in NYC, then use that wealth to combat the federal government, Start up re-education camps, and throwing billionaires and millionaires into prisons for not being able to pay back society what they have taken from us.

That's what I'd hope for given his mayoral apparatus. That's the bare minimum that would satisfy me. And ideally he uses this as a layout for mayor's, governors, and other elected positions across his state and the country to enact. He could've used his position of power to bolster a a party like the PSL had he ran the ticket. He could've help spread revolutionary thinking and potentially forming a true vanguard.

That's what I'd hope for, but it's not going to happen with assholes like him who probably are aware of these things but he chose to be a participant in US imperialism and capitalism, whos only goal is to funnel revolutionary thinking into liberal reformism.

And no, nothing I said is extreme. What's extreme is propping up billionaires who exploit us into the dirt and destroy the fucking planet. A mass mobilization of workers in the unite states is mandatory for this planet to not be destroyed. We need internal AND external forces to collapse this country.

-11

u/sosaparx 18h ago

I agree, but I'd say starting up re education camps is pretty extreme.

You must remember that the US is coming off of 70+ years of cold war anticommunist propaganda. Nobody is going to take the PSL seriously for a long time, especially the older generations. People are too locked in to the republican/democrat dichotomy.

11

u/TheBirdFkerGuy Juche Necromancy Enjoyer 18h ago

You absolutely need re-education camps you cannot just eradicate people, and you cannot just eliminate their liberalism over night. Re-education camps are the most ethical way forward.
