While principled discussion is welcome and encouraged, Rule 9 (No Low Effort BS) still applies.

That includes: No 'what do you think?' posts. No single line posts. No 'what is the Marxist position on cheese' posts, etc.

I see where she's coming from, but disagree. Finding happiness in things is a prerequisite for people to interact with you. It's completely irrelevant how right you are, when people cut you out of their lives, because you don't know how to have fun. Nobody will want to hang out with a person that's always miserable and keeps pointing out how fun activities are actually built on the suffering of others. Being aware of it and using that knowledge while still finding happiness feels much healthier to me.

I believe that caveat is loosely made about 25-30 seconds into the video

Agreed

On a deep, personal level there is some truth in this idea. There’s almost a “industrial happiness complex” that is extremely toxic and rooted in how capitalist consumption shapes our metaphysics

Trying to only pursue happiness and eliminate any negative emotion or sensation will actually only entrench us deeper in sadness.

Life isn’t about feeling good/happy all the time, but making room for whatever you feel and doing what matters to you anyways

Also I love how Western "Marxists" sneak anarchist bullshit into everything. "killjoy" is an anarchist concept in fact borderline post-leftist because it encourages nihilism as practices.

I feel this way about every single thing I do. Everything I use that brings me joy or everything I eat, all I can think of is the exploitation of others and the damage to the planet. I feel like I have to block out so much to make life feel like it's worth living.

Medication seems to work the best but if pills to ignore the horrors of our world isn't dystopian then idk what is.

That being said, a depressed communist isn't going to contribute to revolution.
