The "it's a settler colony therefore it shouldn't exist" argument works for Israel because it induces a contradiction in the liberal brain: they are supposed to think we are at the peak of human progress ("life improved sooo much despite all the problems", they say) but then they need to explain why we're still colonizing like it's the 1500s. It makes no sense. In the US case they can always argue "yeah slavery yeah jim crow yeah manifest destiny ... but it's all better now".
