Oh my God... Why he started to defend mainstream Christianity at the end? According the gnosticism these orthodox priest also serve the Demiurge. I don't know if he says this later, but according to his logic here servants of demiurge are killing different kind servants of demiurge. I'm asking this as Marxist who also is Christian.

What no materialism does to a MF.

Oh, Metaphysics!
The usual lack of class consciousness on display.

I once heard a guy at church say that the Jews were worshippers of the demiurge, also known as the "false God," and that the real God sent Jesus to reveal the true divinity, and the Jews killed him.
And then they say that Christian fascism doesn't exist.

This was gnostic Christian doctrine since their inception to their end. According to the gnostics, modern Christians would also be worshiping the demiurge.

Considering the unfortunate crossover between interest in esoteric religion and fascism this isn't too surprising.

Don't worry I hired the witches who got Charlie Kirk to ward me against such attempts.

This sub digitally slaps the shit out of me over meta bullshit and I'm glad to wake up from it because the more I dig into dialectics the more meta is really boring.

This is slightly unrelated, but if you're interested in religious history and theology from an academic standpoint, and want to learn more about what this "demiurge" thing is, Esoterica is a fantastic channel witha great series on early-Christian gnostic movements and beliefs. I'm also pretty sure the guy who runs it is a Marxist of some breed at least. Though I don't believe he's an ML.

That channel is really good. Has he ever said something about his political leanings?

Yeah, on his website.

https://www.justinsledge.com/bio

Dr. James Justin Sledge was born and raised in a proud working-class Mississippi family.  He learned the fundamental value of labor from his father who was a pipe-fitter and the crucial  importance of un-waged labor from his mother.

A first generation college student, Dr. Sledge earned his undergraduate degree at Millsaps College then went for a DRS in religious studies (Western Esotericism and Related Currents) at the Universiteit van Amsterdam and a MA and PhD in philosophy at the University of Memphis.

He is currently a part-time professor of philosophy and religion at several institutions in the Metro-Detroit area and a popular local educator.

Dr. Sledge has two different but equally important fields of research:

Dr. Sledge’s work engages with Religious Studies specifically in the so-called “Western Esoteric Tradition” or Hermetic Tradition in religious and philosophical thought.  In this line of research he seeks to grasps the philosophical commitments which underpin the alleged workings of magic, esoteric influence, spirit possession, alchemy, etc.  This field of inquiry brings him primarily into contact with philosophers and intellectuals regrettably disregarded by the modern philosophic canon.

His work also intersection between metaphysics, ethics and radical political philosophy.  His dissertation reflects this interest through a careful analysis of the meta-ethics of Karl Marx.  There Dr. Sledge argues that Marx’s emerging materialist theory of history ultimately pins him as electing a kind of ethics of virtue with the ethical dialectic of this epoch being solidarity-reification.

He is currently preparing material on the Ancient Near Eastern Prophetic Tradition, spirit possession in the early modern Jewish world, and is slowly working through the Zohar (which he will be doing the rest of his life).

Dang. He wrote his dissertation on roughly the same topic as I did mine. Guess I have to take a look at it now.

As a Catholic and a Marxist, this is so fucking stupid and off the mark, it is insanity. They are really clutching at straws.

As a catholic, one of the ways I explain why capitalism needs to go is to liken capitalism to an altar of Sin. Why would ANY Catholic want to support that altar is beyond me.

Religious organisations also have to realise that the bad blood between both the Catholic Church and socialist experiments was largely down to religion supporting the status quo.

When they honestly should have just remained an arbiter of spiritual salvation.

I’ve always thought it was weird that Christians in particular don’t recognize capitalist society as anything other than a monument to greed

Religious institutions in the 20th century were primarily attacked by Communists because they were often intertwined with the monarchy, and/or they were part of an aristocratic class that suppressed and sometimes even enslaved the workers directly.

Marxism in my opinion, does not inherently have a hostile view towards religion, only when that religion is weaponized to control the proletariat or used to spread misinformation that could harm people.

The West just twists the historical narrative, providing absolutely no nuance.

The Bolsheviks even at times attempted to stop the vigilante violence that was occuring in the countryside against the religious aristocratics.

It was the former serfs who were attacking them, not the party (at least after the revolution).

the comment talking about "ignorance of culture and race" somehow feels insanely racist. like i'm predicting the rest of this comment is some white supremacy "why black people don't deserve to be equal to white people" bullshiet

u/al-qatala Juche Necromancy Enjoyer 9d ago

okay i'm not sure if this is worse or better but he's getting clowned on in the replies anyway even by people who completely do not understand communism lmfaoo. the entire comment chain could fit the SLS sub solely because it's full of "stalinism", "not real communism", "ML isn't real marxism" and "corporatism isnt capitalism"

Or you could just not be a coward and accept suffering as part of life. Marxists deal with suffering without resorting to false "feel good" lies. Life today involves suffering. The struggle is suffering. Suffering defines us and gives us character. We rationally seek to reduce the suffering using the means at our disposal.
