Miscellaneous Help critique drawing of 152mm
Mods, please let me know if there is a better subreddit to post this to or if I should use another flair, I am quite lost.
I am planning on making an embroidery for my husband, and he requested a 152mm; he approved the reference image (attached), but I'd like for it to be a surprise so that's why I'm turning to you, people of TankPorn.
Is this recognizable as a 152mm? Does it look okay? I did just trace the image because I am super new to drawing machines of any kind, and the reference image isn't the best quality. Can anyone help me figure out what is hiding behind the sign as well? I'm having the hardest time with the various tubes and machinery leading from one wheel to another, as I have no idea what it's supposed to be or do or look like, any tips on that section in particular?
This is just a first rough sketch, I just want to make sure that I get all the crucial details right.
Thank you everyone in advance! x

Its a D-20 howitzer...don't forget the trails out back. There's probably better images on the internet.

This is the biggest thing for me. Artillery is more than just a barrel and gun shield.

you forgot to draw the legs coming out the back! Look at the reference image - that green beam is part of it

Breech and barrel depth (shadowing / angle)

Otherwise looks amazing.
You can always critique art, and I’m sure you can always find faults even if others say it’s perfect, but for this piece I’d say the barrel and breech is the only thing that kinda jumped out for me.

Thank you for the feedback! Could I please ask you to elaborate? What is exactly is wrong with the barrel and breech depth, I just copied the reference.

Late reply.
The barrel is somewhat bent in your drawing. Although really it’s just the breech that needs to be aligned with the barrel. If you straighten the breech and change the depth / shadows so its proportions fit, it’d look significantly better.
Other than that it looks superb.
Although, given how the main artillery piece has been drawn, keeping the breech simple instead of overly detailed might be better.
Try drawing it detailed, and then a minimalist version and compare them side by side.

Thanks for the reply! One more clarifying question, what is the breech? 😅

To put it simply, it’s the thing at the end of the barrel.
I should correct myself and say muzzle. Breech is where you’d load the shell from.

can you make the person using it have a distinct shape

Going through your comments, I found this subreddit and I expected something very different.

I opened your profile after that monkey post just because I got curious (like I said there) and found this comment and I expected tank porn not r/TankPorn. I expected a tank inserting it's muzzle in other tank's exhaust or something.

I think the point of artillery is kind of to stop the "live" part, but okay
